I'd worry more about getting the correct adhesive for it. The correct adhesive should make any fabric stick to 'em. I re-covered the headliner in my truck with some heavy duty vinyl material I got from Wal-Mart, and I used a heavy duty headliner adhesive. Zero problems since I have done it. It did look kind of bad at first (it had bubbles everywhere, but I knew I got every inch of the material and board covered and worked from the inside out), but I'm guessing as all of the adhesive dried, they all went away and it looks like new.

Was gone, lol. The bubbling worried me a bit, most likely due to the temps (cooler/rainy), fabric (again, a really thick, heavy duty vinyl), and the amount of adhesive I used (the entire friggin' can). You'll want something more like an automotive headliner adhesive. I bought a huge can of the heavy duty stuff for like $8 or something at Napa. Make sure you get the plastic really clean (Wax and adhesive remover or something similar would work best and quickest IMO). Spray the adhesive onto what you want to glue the fabric to, then the back of the fabric (may need to go light if it is a thinner fabric), and apply it from the inside of the piece working your way out so you don't get wrinkles. An extra set of hands really help as well; as for helping hold the fabric to spray it and hold it while applying it to the piece. I've only done it that one time, but it looks dang good.

Use 3M ultra 90 from home depot or the like and follow the can to the T. Some fabrics are heavier then others and thats where I had slight problems, somedays when it is really humid mine sags a lil, I used brocade which is a japanese silk fabric and it is thick and heavy. But if your using the standard headliner stuff I wouldnt worry about it.
Check my project log to see what I used its in my sig.
