Anybody good with math?

Post by Moparty08 » Fri Jul 24, 2009 7:30 pm

I'm trying to get a border around my pool to fill in with rocks for drainage. I need to know the perimeter of my pool so i know how much to buy. The pool is oval. The length of the pool is 30 feet and the width is 15.

I'm guessing the perimeter would be close to 100 feet but i'd like to get a more accurate estimate. Thanks to anyone who can help.

77 feet if I'm doing it right. Been a while since I messed with math. Even though this is a simple thing.

It would be easy if it was just a rectangle cause you just add the sides together but with an oval i'm like what the crap

Did you pass grade school at all?

pi: more than just something you eat.

Assuming it's 30ft to the ends of the oval basic math says 77 and change, round up to 78 to make sure you have enough.

hmmm, how do you get that? Two of us got 77.x

the radius of the ends is 7.5
so, 3.14x15 = full diameter of the rounded ends = 47.1
47.1+15+15 = 77.1

In construction (the house building kind of construction) it's far more likley to be an elipse and not an oval.

Unless he says his pool is oval. In that case it's far more likely to be an oval.

Honestly, I've yet to see an elliptical pool. All the ones I've seen have either been square or oval.
