The slicks are completely worn out. I don't see any wear indicator dots. He won't be able to race because the tires wouldn't pass through tech at the track. At least he got 2 rims out of the deal.

Technically unemployment taxes are paid by the employer. Thus why we have no control over what % of pay we get from it.
My cheap employer only pays 20% of your pay up to a maximum of $200/wk before taxes. The Big Three IIRC, paid what, 80 to 90% of the base pay?

Yeah, if that was taxed out of my pocket I would be very unhappy.

If he was buying that stuff on welfare checks, I could see the point.
Unemployment is an earned benefit, so I don't have an isuue with it. It's his money, and no different than squandering it on something he couldn't afford if he was employed only making $170/wk take home.
If you never worked a day in your life, and got uneployment I would also agree with you. But here in the states, you have to work full time, X amount of weeks to earn it.

Correct. When I got laid of for a couple months I ended up getting on unemployment. For the 3 years I worked at my job I had amassed enough money in my 'unemployment fund' (or whatever they call it) to get about $200 a week in unemployment. In that amount I was receiving I was also getting taxes withheld just like any other American citizen.

I see no problem in him spending his money on car parts. In fact, I bought a couple car parts with my unemployment checks.

BTW - for anyone that doesn't realize: unemployment is not welfare.

depends on your situation, how much money you made, where you live, are kids a factor, do you live in the an apartment, trailer, house, mansion.

so many things to account for.

people who get on welfare and dont bother to get another job, makes me upset. because it doesnt solve the problem of not having a job

not too mention our president has extended unemployment benefits to a year now. Ultimately it does come out of your pockets. In MD unemployment that the employer pays is like insurance and I think that is what they call it, so the more your company pays out in "insurance" the less they have to pay raises or you which could lead to you being on unemployment. Unemployment is not free it comes from somewhere.

I once had to sue a former employer to get unemployment after working 13 years for the firm. And then all I got was one check.:cussing:

This is the deal...

-when one is unemployed their new job becomes finding the next job.

-given the economic times some folks may choose, if they can, to hunker down and wait for hiring to improve.

-funds spent during this period should be for essentials and learning new skills. Slicks are not essentials unless you earn a living racing cars.

-it is acceptable to take some down time after being let go. 1 to 2 weeks... not 6 months! However, having said that and if your resume is out-of-date... you might want to start working on your resume right away as that takes time to get together.

You should see the stuff that goes on up here in Canada. There are some folks who have fine-tuned the art of getting themselves laid-off the minute they qualify for unemployment. I don't understand how someone can get themselves laid off from a roofing company in the spring when business is booming and the company is doing well.

Some employers will ask what you have been doing since getting laid off... unless you are a mechanic or driver telling them you have been setting up your race car doesn't cut it.

Woooow there Canada...Our unemployment is paid by us the employee and the employer...So if someone gets laid off and starts to collect "poggie" then they can really do whatever they want.

I was in the Military for 5 years and paid almost 30 000 into the unemployment system and when i got out for medical release i was NOT entitled to collect it...so you tell me who should be pissed?

But yeah pay 150 for anything but important work on a car while making that little your a fool...but thats his money and life...

The fat, dirty, lazy asses across from my other house are on all kinds of assistance!! There was like 8 people living in a 2bd townhouse. Now they are down to 5. They seem perfectly able to work. They dont pay any bills but they can afford to buy candles. They always ask me for food, water, milk and baby diapers. They dont ask and plug there cell phones into my outside power outlets. I bought locking outlet covers and the women still comes over and asks if I can charge her phone. I dont think they get the message!! I will not help someone if they do not try to help themselves and they get it stuck inthere heads that everyone will take care of them. I am not a charity!! I dont give any of my money away. I dont feel sorry for people that are not willing to make it themselves. I would help them if they offered to cut my grass or wash my cars but if they are intent on sitting in the shade in a lawn chair all day FUCK THEM!! Me and my wife went out a few weeks ago and was approached by a woman who asked us for some money to feed her kids. I told her no and kept going. My wife asked me why since it was for her kids. I explained to her that she is a crack addict and she asked me how I know. I told me that the reason all her front teeth are rotted out of her head because the crack pipe. I am not against helping people out but not some lazy peice of shit that expects the world to take care of them!

Wow benzsxt...your a little passionate about this...I aint gonna try and change your opinion here. But maybe instead of bitching that your neighbour won't doing anything in return for using your hydro...then offer that deal with them...make up a schedule or something like that...If they refuse then do what your doing and also tell them that if they do come on your property and "steal" your hydro you will call the police and have them charged...play nice then play hard ball...thats what i'd do...but i'm use to going places and seeing people that are realling living in need and needing help...(Afghanistan, Haiti, East Timor, Sudan, Bosnia) to name a few...And that has opened my eyes to being a little more caring (not alot all the time) just to know when someone really does need that hand up and a little nudge in the rihgt direction...

I agree with you but I am not giving someone something that they can go out and earn money for. There is a lot of jobs available where I live. They just need to get up and get one. My wife is from a third world country and that is why she is so giving. We send her family money and clothes once a month.

Talking about lazy people...

I recently filled out the paperwork for a guy being laid off. It was a paper form that he needs to apply for unemployment benefits.

He sends me an email all upset and complaining that I did not file electronically but instead gave him a paper. He wanted to sit on his rear at home and file electronically rather than get his ass down to the unemployment center and file in person.

Oh... the unemployment center is 5 minutes from where he lives.

That's awful.

There's a very clear difference between needing some help to get back on your feet and taking advantage of the good will of others and the system meant as a representation of that good will.

Ben is helping family...HIS family. Honestly that's the only family that needs help. There are people in my neighborhood that claim "OMG, I need money to buy my baby food" when they get food stamps every month. I know they do because I've seen them use it. They need money to get high, it's all they're asking for. Drug users are rampant in this area. If they need food, or assistance, there are signs all over, call 311 (it's free, call from a payphone) and find out how. It's fucking easy, but they can't use food stamps, or go to food banks, or use energy assistance to get crack.

And fuck my luck that I make "just too much" to get any assistance from anything for a family of 4.

Wait...I didn't agree or say anthing bad about him helping his family...I totally agree with it and basically told him that he was doing good..nice to see that not every person in this world worries about themselves...I guess that up here in Canada people aren't as bad as they are down in the USA for using the system..yeah there is alot but not as many as you guys like it seems to be down there...Or the people up here aren't as open and non seretive...but system users are users and need to be dealt with...

Reminds me down in DC the homeless do not ask for change they ask for dollars, I shit you not. When I was working in DC a homeless guy asked for a dollar, I told him I didn't have it so he asked for 5, then 10 then 20. I proceeded to laugh in his face. In the MD, DC, VA metropolitan areas for some reason panhandling has exploded no matter where you are if their is a stop sign or traffic light someone is asking for money.

The one time I got fired I was too damn embarrassed to file for unemployment even though I was entitled to it, wrongful termination.

I know..I can tell you one...

I was in training with the military (Canadian) and when i was in Kingston Ontario...there was this couple that would take shifts...they would dress up all "homeless" like and panhandle..then when they were done nad his wife or he was being replaced by her they would pick each other up in a ferrari..NOT lying...they were RICH people in a house that was worth approx 11million...and they panhandled cause they were making killer money..the police investigated and charged them for it...they were apparently making hundreds a day at it and they were both worth millions each...like wow...I thought it was hillarious in a way...they dooped so many people lol
