winter rims/tires or find winter beater?
well i have been debating on whether to find some pt steelies and winter tires or find a winter beater car.
well if it is the beater car would anyone take a chance on this one? (http://chicago.craigslist.org/wcl/cto/1291569303.html)
its says that it has a bad wrist pin, how hard would that be to change out?
just wondering what some of you would do?
thanks in advanced

Bad wrist pin is a pin on the rod and piston combo. You're going to need the short block to be re-done. Honestly, find a first gen, a beater 4x4 truck, or get steelies with snow tires.sestormline29 wrote:well i have been debating on whether to find some pt steelies and winter tires or find a winter beater car.

Set of nokian hakka wr's or wr2's and you're not getting stuck until there's a solid foot and a half of snow everywhere.

If you go with winter tires, please put them on ALL 4 corners.sestormline29 wrote:thoughs tires all the way around or just the front?
With no winter tires on the back the rear can break free and send you sailing in an uncontrolled manner down the road.
What would you rather have...
-4 solid winter contact patches with the road
-or-
-2 solid winter contact patches with the road

$50 for a steel wheel? OMG! How about at the local pick and pull $5 each! Alloys are $10 each. Go to the nearest retreading tire shop and pay $30 a tire for some tall skinny winter retread tires and be golden for around $100.
I thought about getting a nice set of Hankook or Cooper winter tires but I know how I drive when it's dry on the roads and I would just ruin them. Retreads are cheap and last at least 2 seasons. And if they don't...who cares.
