Im just curious but why such a wide tire on a 6" rim? I just think it would look silly. 225mm is almost 9 inches (8.8in) wide! And with a 17 inch rim and 45 series sidewall its almost 25" tall.

I mean to each his own but I think its to much tire for the car.

Car is looking good, I like the CF/gunmetal combo.

I think a lip kit would really do wonders for your car. The aggressiveness of the hood is a bit out of place with the factory lines. I don't think a full body kit would be necessary (unless you wanted to go that route), but throwing a lip kit on there would really bring it alive and pull the whole car together.

Just my .02. Keep up the good work!

Rim width is just as much a function of aspect ratio as it is section width.

Thus the reason a 205/50 safely fits a 6" wide wheel and a 205/40 does not.

Thanks everbody. Yea, im running 225/45/17. I 1st started doin because everybody said that size wouldn't work, either because the tire wouldn't fit the rim or becuase of the tire rubbin during cornering. I have never had a prob with either issuse. Ever since then I have continued to run that size.

I kno some people say 225 is to wide for the 6 inch rim,I KNO its not as I've lost control around a left hand sweeper @ a lil above 90mph & flat spotted all 4 tires. The front passenger tire took the brunt of it & I have pics of the tire. It roll to the side wall & flat spotted that aswell,if the tire was too big it would have popped the bead & blew out making the situation a gazillion times worse. Either I had an angel lookin out for me or the tire fits fine. Also another thing to take into consideration is all tire makes aren't the same exact size,as in a Falken 225/45 may not be the same measurment as a Dunlop 225/45.

222/45 is way too wide and short of an aspect ratio for a 6" wheel.

that is a full inch too small. but its the same thing as someone putting 205/40s on a set of 6" wheels. either way its potentially unsafe and you will never catch me doing it. buy the right wheels

:tardbang: :thefinger:

I did buy the right tires that's why there on the rims holding air & don't pop the bead. Every SRT around my way runs 225's on stock rims aswell. I've done everything you could think of on this setup, drag racing, rally racing,60-0 braking, burnouts,Hard cornering either accelerating or decelerating.

You can be unsafe in CA, thats fine by me. Its still unsafe. The tire manufacturers recommend certain rim widths for a reason.

Your car is unsafe. Its too bad CA worries so much about emissions to fail your car for unsafe tires.

hahahaha Sorry Frank but i can almost garuntee theres atleast 2-3 SRT's rolling around near you with 225's on stock rims.

Heres the pic of when the side wall rolled over & got flat spotted. Cuz since u believe its unsafe to run 225's, mind explaining why it didnt pop off the bead @ 90+mph?? Cuz if the tire was too big it would def pop the bead in a heart beat...

All im sayin Frank is dont always believe the hype or something u've read, dont pass judgement on something uve never tried. Thats the same thing as sayin you dont like a food by the way it looks without ever tryin a bite.

Well apparently we can agree to disagree on this subject.

As far as the tire engineers bein morons, well lets jus say Firestone & leave it at that....

SRT's might be running 225/50/17, which has a fine aspect ratio. It's really not a good idea.

BTW, I'm running 225/50/15's on a 6" neon wheel. It works fine. Just because you didn't pop a bead dosen't mean anything, you just got lucky. A 205 tire probably wouldn't have popped either.

Don't forget that Yokohama, BFG, Kuhmo, Sumitomo, Dunlap, Michelin, etc, etc, etc makes tires too.

225/45 on a 6" wheel is unsafe. This isn't one of those agree to disagree subjects, you are wrong.

225/50/17's would rub as the tire is too tall.the 225/45's barely clear.

As far as gettin lucky Jerry,I mentioned that in an above post. All im sayin is to each their own... I've been running 225/45/17's since 04' & love um. I hate seeing skinny ass bicycle size tires on cars, but that's jus MY opinion,every1 is entitled to their own. I'll continue to run um & Frank will continue to run his prefered size & we'll all be happy

P.S. If u care to keep dicussing this, please open a thread for it instead of taking mine off topic thanks

Last bit:

The Firestone issue was also Ford's fault. They recommend 26-28psi on Explorers and Expeditions.

No problem with going with a wider tire, just get the right wheel.

And about your tire issue. The tire being too wide for the wheel is probably why you scrubbed the sidewall. It rolled over on itself because it wasn't supported properly.

You need a front badge, and I recommend you remove the bandana, it seems like potential danger. But the car looks great!
