Def offtopic but here goes...
I read somewhere that the space in an atom outside the nucleus and inside "outer skin" believed to house electrons that swirl around in a specific pattern; this area is also believed to hold dark matter and is also believed to have "self consciousness".
Using that information I concluded that *if* these atoms truly do have "consciousness" then different types of atoms connected in groups with other types of atoms form "Conscious systems" like that in the human body. I believe this is the only way that the way life works can operate the way it does. So in simple words, the combined consciousness of all the connected atoms in a living or organic (or possibly ANY) system can create such a strong conscious that the system becomes self aware.
So if you die, and those atoms making up your body die and stop "talking together" as a system, or as one consciousness...then that one off consciousness will never "be" again except for the remaining atoms which are left over (in bones/decomposed matter/organic matter). So I believe somewhat that when you die you may still "move on" but in a different form then that previously conceived by mankind.
The consciousness will be faint, and may even split off into multiple consciousnesses. I don't believe the consciousness can be strong enough once decayed to become self aware again.
Edit: If this is too much for anyone to grasp, simply don't reply. It's simply my observation after looking at some of the latest research about dark matter and consciousness. If you have any doubt, remember this is MY view but is very relevent to some of the most recent findings on this topic. I suggest if you feel like bringing up religion or anything you DO NOT unless can provide any proof showing that any of this information is truly false. All kinds of information can be found on google etc, so plz do your research before you diss

This is interesting. The first thing I thought of was the brain: two hemispheres (practically two different “people”) conversing and giving us a unified perspective. Even in cases where the corpus callosum was detached (fibers of communication between the two hemispheres) the patients exhibited unification in their normal day-to-day activities.OhNo2.0 wrote: Using that information I concluded that *if* these atoms truly do have "consciousness" then different types of atoms connected in groups with other types of atoms form "Conscious systems" like that in the human body. Though, I think there’s a major disconnect here. And that’s the assumption that these atoms “talk” to each other, relaying information other than “you go here, ok, look sharp guys! We are trying to comprise Janet here.” The word “consciousness” is thrown out a lot. For an atom, consciousness might equate to knowing its place (much like cells), which is completely different than what we perceive to be consciousness in people. With this in mind, a bunch of “knowing one’s place” systems could not comprise a “knowing one is” system; it would be like trying to comprise an apple bushel with oranges.
Also, Everything is comprised of atoms, even objects without life (as you pointed out in your parenthesis). Should we assume that all these items have consciousness/ self-awareness? Their consciousness systems are united like those for humans, so do they have it? Intuition, at least for myself (I know, ‘Pocahontas’ is saying this), is no. But looking at it scientifically, I think the only answer to this would be to detect consciousness in them. And the only way to do that would be to determine what exactly in us houses or exhibits consciousness so that it can be found and measured in other things. Unfortunately this is a very old and highly contested question between two philosophical camps (dualists and monists—modern day: phenominalists and materialists) that sees no solution for a very, very long time, if ever.
P.S. I recommend linking the material to give everyone a chance to read, digest, and discuss further.
P.P.S. I really recommend that you read The Physics of the Impossible by Michio Kaku. Seems like something you’d be into

sooooooooooo how much pot do you smoke?
Anyway, that's interesting to think about. My friend and I often get into discussions about things of this nature. It's crazy to think about things in their most essential form and realize how silly the human race. I won't go into that though.

To be honest I was stoned when I was reading up this subject.sidepipe87 wrote:sooooooooooo how much pot do you smoke?

BUT I am also an inventor and some of my most creative ideas have been brought up whilst "stoned".
I believe THC acts as a barrior to "foggy thoughs" and tends to help the brain focus on ONE subject unlike when you are not stoned. I am certain about this theory cause look at how people become very paranoid when smoking the stuff...cause they are thinking too much about one thing (usually bad), but if you smoke it enough you learn how to focus it on any subject.

And I know what you are trying to say about our race being "silly". We will just leave it at that cause that topic will ruin this thread and it will probably get locked.
And to poca, simply look up "dark matter conscious" and the likes in google for almost limitless info on this theory (or dare I say "findings").
Maybe you are right about only CERTAIN types of atoms having consciousness and others not. I also found this...
2. Evidence for non-local consciousness
A host of experiments reported at this conference (QM2003) verify the existence of some form of non-local consciousness, at least out to ten meters. Separate papers by Standish, Germine, Thaheld, Richards, Kozak and Wackermann (lead authors) report (i) EEG and MRI correlations in the brain of a human receiver with the (ii) visual stimulus of an isolated sender some ten meters away. We say that this form of consciousness is invisible as the receiver is not aware of the sender or the sender’s transmissions. Neither is the sender aware of what is being transmitted.

I will put my own slant into this.
The idea of dark matter having some kind of consciousness makes a lot of sense. While it may not be awareness that we interact with every day, it is still something "substantial" that some people may be more in tune with than others.
For example...I am Pagan (no, this isn't going to become a spiritual debate). As such, I tend to feel "connected" to nature, the elements, etc. Could my connection to this dark matter consciousness be why I feel this way? My belief in the continuance of ones self (soul, if you will) through many lives would also seem to be supported by this idea.
We as humans are just starting to realize that there is so much more to our world that what we can see or easily explain in a scientific way. What once was "just known" by older cultures my now be brought to the forefront of science because of new discoveries.
Oh, and just for giggles, George Lucas used this same idea to explain the force. A little more whimsical for the film perhaps, but the same basic principle.

It all adds up doesn't it? We may not be EXACTLY right but I'm sure mankind is STARTING to get the jist of it.Danteneon wrote:I will put my own slant into this.

Also take this into consideration. One of mankinds most renound findings is that of galaxy like structures of dark matter located in some of the most distant reaches of the universe. These dark matter galaxies don't have the "normal" galaxy like structure that we usually see (with a central core that is more dense and usually in a swirl pattern etc etc). But these "dark matter galaxies" have their own unique patterns.
When I seen these patterns the first thing I though was that these pattern were arranged kind of like how the paths in a brain work. With several different "structures" with "paths" connecting these structures or areas to eachother.
Just imagine...if dark matter is really the secret behind consciousness...what are these galaxies? And what powers do they hold? Is it self aware?

Also a good point. The connections to something more are there, but most humans aren't able to grasp it.
Every now and again I try to visualize what other dimensions would be like. Now the very idea of a higher dimension than our own is very difficult to grasp. But, as Carl Sagan explained, it can be accomplished. The way he explained flatland is a perfect example Link So may this dark matter be a peek into something totally different?

Haha of course you were high... that's how this type of conversation always starts. And I don't think it's from being 'high'. It's from being able to be more aware of ones self, surroundings, and universe. I think pot is a great asset when not exploited.
I'm just gonna go ahead here and make some quick related plugs. if you're really interested in this topic i suggest you look up some of the TED Talks lectures, as well as the movie Waking Life which is pretty cool.

I like how we can at least come to terms with the fact that MOST people still cannot grasp these concepts, and when it all boils down never will and this will be the end of humanity. Medicine is making people live longer and longer, while doing less for the good of society and ultimately robots WILL rise up and take over our universe. It's scary when you try to wrap your head around this stuff but it's a subject I'm very interested in and am pleased to find others interested too. It takes real intellectuals to be able to fathom these things. most people write it off as being a stupid hippy stoner, or some nonsense because they don't understand it. I just hope we can all become more self aware and learn what we need to be doing while we are still on earth.
Another interesting topic comes about from Plato's Theory of Form in which Plato describes an allegory about prisoners that have lived their entire life in a cave, and how they perceive the world around them through their senses.

Did you hear that from a christian "scientist" trying to explain the "soul"
In any case it is nonsense, saying the empty space in atoms has consciousness is like saying plants have emotions, there is absolutely no evidence for it. It is nothing more than someones imagination run wild. Please don't spread this crap around there are highly suggestible people who will believe it, like all religious nut jobs
Ha...hippies.Whereever you read that, it was a hippy magazine at best. That's fucking retarded.

haha, yes, proves my point exactly. some peoples' brains aren't big enough to even understand WHAT you're saying let alone, be able to think and reason about it and realize it's well founded SCIENTIFIC findings

I think that Western Science has become a little too cozy with it's own "belief" structure.....that it 'knows' everything, but this goes against science itself.
There's the Big Bang Theory, the Steady-State Theory, Electrical Theory, etc., etc., etc.
What people / scientists FORGET, is that these are all THEORIES..... still needing to be "proven", and may well remain Theories, possibly forever.
Man forgets sometimes that as much as we think we know, there is also a Hell of a lot that we DON'T know.
Take Electrical Theory, for example.
We use electricity every day..... to power our cars, type on this keyboard, for example..... but it is still electrical THEORY.... not Electrical Law.
Kind of funny, that we are not 100% certain on how electricity works.
So what does that have to do with this thread ??
Just my way of saying that there may very well be 'Alternate Consciousnesses' and 'Alternate dimentions' or universes, besides our own little cozy worlds......
Here is a great site discussing 'end' scenarios (the earth, the universe, whatever): http://www.exitmundi.nl/exitmundi.htm
It is verrrry interrrrresting, not because of the theoretical cataclysms it describes, but because it discusses some theories that science and physists are just starting to 'get their minds' around now.....
Read the one on The "Big Crumble".
There is too much, that we do Not know.
