New Stereo in an SX 2.0

Post by DarkenedHalo » Sat Oct 01, 2005 8:32 pm

Well, one of the first upgrades I will be doing to my new car is a stereo upgrade... The old stereo from my old car will just not cut it....concept speakers(wouldn't fit anyways), rockford p300.1 amp, clarion pro audio 12" SVC 4 ohm(2004 model).... I want something a little more higher end that will still sound great four or five years down the road...

Here's what I have planned:

Pioneer Premier DEH-P560MP - got it last year for the sundance, just got a warranty service done to have the roller/pick-up assembly replaced so it will actually eject a cd.... but still a great HU. Possible upgrade may be done, to either the 7700 or the 8MP.

Focal Access 6.5" components, midrange in the doors, tweeters put into the dash.

Focal Access 6x9" for the rears.

Focal Access dual 11" subs

Audison SRx3 for the fronts and subs.

Audison SRx2 for the rears.

I may go with Polyglass k2 speakers, if I can get a good deal from my local shop(discussing possible sponsorhip)

As for the install, I'm not sure what to do with the subs... I still want to have the spare tire/have access to it. It will probably be a custom fibreglass box, and modify the spare tire cover so I can still slide it out(need to work out how much room I can lose and still pull it out)

Comments on the setup are quite welcome, if anyone has any suggestions regarding the components(different models) with about the same price tag, let me know!

I also need some serious help for the sub installation. My shop is very hesitant to put them in separate boxes in the back corners, as it may produce cancellation waves. I can't just toss in any box, as I need to be able to reach the spare tire. I was looking at the dual loaded box available from Focal(two Access 9"), because of it's size, I may just be able to disconnect the wiring and pull it out for a minute... and that thing can still pound pretty hard. Although I would definitely prefer dual 11"s.... help?

And if you can't tell, I'm more into the SQL side of things, rather then SPL.... But I still wanted a system that can hit hard... so don't tell me to replace my components with Kicker... or Alpine(I've had really nasty luck with Alpine, even if it does sound pretty good for a lot less money then I plan on spending)

Thanks for reading this long post :)

I have the Focal Polyglass 165 V3 E in my car and if it wasn't for the custom Kickpanel I buit around them I would have replaced them long ago with MB Quart. They do sound good but they really don't handle as much power as the quarts without breaking up. FYI I'm pushing them with a Phoenix gold 500.4TI so I know the problem isn't the ampand I also set my system up for SQ with a kick. Also their warranty returns are very strict so if you burn a voice coil as I did 3 days after install you'll probably have to replace it out of pocket. Just wanted to pass on my experience as something to think about

Well, that's the beauty part of a sponsorship - I'm not doing the install, so they'll have the system fine tuned for me, and if something goes, then they'll replace it :)
