Hey everybody, I was thinking for the future earlier, about death and all, and I know my SOHC engine will die someday. It's sad, I really like it, but I know it'll go in due time. I love my Neon, and was wondering if a Dodge Caliber SRT-4 engine would fit into the current engine's place. It would see there is quite a bit of room in the engine compartment (as opposed to my other love, the Mitsubishi 3000GT, which is cramped to all hell).
Call me a n00b, but I'm just curious. What else will fit in there? Is a small V6 possible?

I have never heard of anyone putting a V6 into a Neon.
You'd have to butcher the car to make it work.
The SRT-4 powertrain has been swapped into the Neon.
However, it's not just an engine and trans swap.
Electronics, suspension and brakes are involved too.
Think about all the things that make an SRT-4 different from a regular Neon..... quite a few things, actually.

Hey man... don't discount the longevity of the 2.0 SOHC.llamaboy wrote:Hey everybody, I was thinking for the future earlier, about death and all, and I know my SOHC engine will die someday.
Great little engine that should last a very long time if maintained and not beat on.

I'm talking about the Caliber engine, not the Neon SRT-4 engine. Basically wondering if it's in a whole different size category. The N/A World engine they use in the Caliber R/T would be nice too, if one wants to keep it N/A.
Basically what I'm wondering is how close the Caliber engines are to the Neon engines. They can't be THAT different, other than one of them is a 1.8; which is a bastardization of all that is Neon or Neon related.
I take pride in my slightly larger engine than the Civics/Integras (ugh) have.
@Paul: I've seen some go 350k+, mine only has 90k. Just looking deep into the Noodle's future.

need not to worry about that.
engine will die but it's not worth worrying. it should be the most long-life part in a car.
the problem is do you ever worry about heart stop beating, or broken? no... just kidding. same thing as the engine of a car. proper maintainess makes the engine last forever..
caliber uses mitsu motor right?

The Caliber engine would take as much fab work to fit as a V6 swap. Nothing is really interchangeable, the oil filter would be buried in the radiator....
Caliber engine, not sure if it is a 2.0 or 2.4...

Neon...

That thing is a bit wider than the neon set up, the water outlets are on the other end, etc.
It would be cheaper to just rebuild the one you have, when the time comes. With good maintenance, the 2.0 can hit 200,000 + miles. Chances are there will be more engines than cars, as the number of neons dwindle. That is if they dont get shredded with the rest of the car.
I can see that being put into law...

Probably shouldn't listen to anything your penis says, that guy's a dick.
Too much time spent here is a sign of a bad case of Ownaneonvirus.Patience, of course, is a very powerful weapon, but sometimes I start to regret that it is not a firearm.
