P0441 shows up on OBDII scanner but no CEL

Post by shinta86 » Fri Aug 07, 2009 5:17 pm

I went to Autozone and had them hook up a OBDII scanner and the guy said that P0441 was stored. I don't have a Check engine light and when I check for codes all I get is done. I even checked on my scangauge. What is up with this? I am trying to get my emissions done.

Some codes may not cause the CEL to stay illuminated. The computer may have read the code for a moment, then the condition did not repeat itself. The code would then be stored in the PCM. A good example is the misfire codes I get with my UDP. When it first senses the "misfire", the CEL will flash. If I get off the gas the light will go out, but the code is still stored.

Clear the code, and make sure you get a good # of starts before testing. If there aren't enough good starts (starts without the code present) then the station won't pass the car until that condition is met.
If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...

Eek, I really don't want to clear the codes cause I have already been driving around on expired plates and have gotten two tickets. I'm trying to avoid having to put all the mileage on it again to ready the PCM.

Ummm, you have to clear the codes. If you stroll in with the code stored, they will send you packing. And there could be a good chance that that code was stored a while ago.

Clear the code and go get tested. If they say you need to bring it back, do so. I'm not sure how emissions work in your area, but here you can get re-tested over and over again for a month for no extra charge till it passes. I had to go back three times with my car last month

Just out of couriosity, does it display the code on the odometer (key dance) after flashing and going out? Because mine will only display the code after it stays on. (constant CEL.) Mine varies between 0300, and 0302.

Too much time spent here is a sign of a bad case of Ownaneonvirus.
