So shiny The salsa way

Post by srtgtr34 » Sat Aug 15, 2009 4:22 pm

Full detail today.

I got to use my new dewalt buffer and what a result.

I used 3m 3000 extra cutting compound followed by 3m "finesse it" glaze. Its super smooth now and O so shiny.

Ever since I got the tokicos installed the stance just isn't up to my liking. With my blown struts the rear wheels were tucked a bit, now.. well you can see.

The car needs alot of body work, there is at least two dents or scratches on each door. Let alone my rusted hood, ruined fender and rear quarter panel. I am going to be fixing this car up to use it as my car for school. I want to get it repainted after the winter, All I need is the parts and paint. I have the clear and primer sitting right next to me.

I have applied to Ohio Tech for automotive collision and repair and most likely will be going there. Once I find a steady job out there I will be buying an srt4 which I have been saving up for 6 months already. If funds permit, I want to keep the 2000 to drive daily and keep the srt at home and use it some weeks.

This car pretty much has new suspension and brakes all done this month, The only mantenance that needs to be done is the timing belt, which is coming very soon.

Enjoy and comments are welcome.

does that cutting compound just fills up the scratch or unsmooth area or it actually act as sandpaper to smoothout everything?

nice result!

Cutting compounds act as a liquid sandpaper almost to remove the clearcoat miniscule amounts at a time to get rid of scratches.

Dewalt 849? I love mine, it's variable in the trigger though with no lock...amazing machine. The paint came out nice :)

I have never seen any other salsa red neon that has the gloss level as this one does. I actually have a guy that lives just up the street from me that has one. Its dull as hell along with the others I have scene. Everycar needs to be buffed like once a year to restore their shine IMO.

That's the shiniest Salsa Red I've seen. My dad has a really dull salsa red.

Man I wish I knew someone around me with a buffer.

I agree with you, I loved your car's stance on your old blown struts alot better. Now, it's too high for my taste. :(

Before I got the dewalt I had this no name brand that I bought on ebay about 2 years ago.

It came as a kit with 3 pads, some mothers wax and the buffer,
I believe it was about 150 bucks.

They are basically the same thing except, they don't have the high rpms like the dewalt does and the ebay or cheaper buffers don't have removeable back plates.

But they are still very efective for there price. The main reason I bought the dewalt was for the removable back plate, so I can use different types of pads. And I also have a side job of detailing cars for some extra cash, so it'll get paid by itself.

But for godsake If you've never buffed before, have someone teach you the technique, especially when using cutting creme... That crap burns through mighty fast if you don't know what your doing.

To think, that paint is about 10 years old... 10 years of abuse and it held up pretty well. I should get a pic up of when I bought it, lol that thing was in need of help..
