How is a car aligned?

Simple queston. What does the mechanic at the shop mess with when they align a car? It is just adjustments on the tie rods or something else? Do they mess with the bolt that holds the control arms up in (the bigger one that comes out from the bottom)?

On our cars, they mainly adjust at the knuckle/strut for camber and at the tie rod ends for toe.

lol, to sum it up yeah... it's a process, which is made easy with machines. your best bet is to talk to a mechanic while he's doing one and you'll be able to see exactly what does what
