my trasmission and me.

Post by unsuper man » Wed Oct 05, 2005 5:14 pm

my tranny, thru all the abuse over the years, has NEVER skipped a beat. never given me any trouble. well after 40k+ abusive miles my stock clutch started to slip after making 8 1/4 passes in 45 minutes. so i threw in my Spec stage 3. car shifted fine for the first 1-2k miles. now, almost over night, it wont go into gear without a fight, grinds with the clutch all the way in, fights to basiclly shift. is this the trasmission or the clutch. becuase im about ready to call spec and tear them a new asshole. the fisrt clutch i orderd, they sent a clutch for an SRT i bleieve, something that fit, but didnt work and slipped, so i payed to have it installed, then uninstalled. wasted 600 on that, so they replaced it with the right one for free. now ive payed another 350 having this one put in, and im affair it has to come out oo, untop of the 600 i payed for the clutch its self. whats every ones opinion on this matter/>

I'm sure you probably already checked this but did you try adjusting the pedal under the dash? Did you have a rattling problem with your SPEC Stage 3? Mine sounds nasty when idleing, I can make it stop by depressing the clutch but when in neutral and released it's loud enough to draw attenton.

isnt the clutch self adjusting on a second gen ?? i know they was on my first gen . as for the grinding it almost sounds like the syncros in the tranny hope im wrong but will it shift into first and reverse with out grinding?? the rattiling that goes away when pressing the clutch is probably your throw out bearing if you do pull the tranny to have it or the clutch checked i would have the throw out looked at as well for both noise and to make sure it has sufficient lube on it hope this helps let me know what you find out

The clutch is adjusted just like the shifter is it's an 8mm soket head screw, if you get under the dash you'll see it, I adjusted it cause I was having some problems trying to shift under HARD acceleration.

update. the problem is intermitent (sp) sometimes itll shift fine, and at a monents notice, with no warning, and with no reason, it just wont go into gear. and yesterday, in 2nd gear, when i disenguaged the clutch, it kept deaccelerating lie it was in gear, till i ripped the shifter outta 2nd in which it made a "not very good" sound. its just weird how sometimes itll go inito 1st and then not into second, then sometimes itll go into only 2nd and 4th with no 1,2 or 5. its really weird.

It really sounds like it has something to do with the hydraulic clutch. If you have a Chiltons manual there is a section on Bleeding the Hydraulic clutc, I can't type for $&^% but if you want I can scan it at work tomorrow and e- mail it.

Did you check to ensure your shifter cable clips are still in place?
