Since the car's not finished yet then there's no need to kick the guy in the balls..... I only read the last 2 pages and can already tell:
1 the car's going to be painted eventually
2 he's working now (good for you!!) and will be making enough cash to mod the car and get it set correctly once he's hired F/T
3 He's never claimed to have a full-on custom ride.

We all start somewhere, whether it's "built not bought" or "bought AND built". IMO he looks like he scored a Howell hood which is a 'rare' find these days. Wait till it's finished then pass judgement. Rock on OP...

Dont compare your car to a fully built SRT-4 with a piss load of custom work. That hood looks good on her car as it looks like it belongs and she can back up the look of her car by lifting the hood

i wasn't comparing my car to hers, i was saying that its the same style hood. if its rice on one car then its rice on all cars. i don't care what engine is under the hood.
so by that logic a supra wing on a civic isn't rice, an srt wing on a 4door first gen isnt rice?

i just think it'd dumb to own a huge bulging hood, that doesn't even improve cooling, especially when there's nothing special to cool.

i mean, do what you want, it's your car, but that hood sucks.

and how do u know i wont be making it a functional hood? or even have plans of putting a turbo on my car? needless to say im not going to get into a pissing match with you about what is dumb to do or not to do. i like the hood, its my car, there are things i think are dumb on others cars including things on the interior of your car, but you know what, doesnt matter, its your car you do what you want with it, ill do what i want with mine.

let me clarify what i was saying about being rice on one being rice on all. .. being a srt and a reg neon, are still both just that . neons, if a hood looks rice on one neon then imho its rice on another. comparing what we where talking about in this thread vs putting a surpa wing on a civic. has nothing to do with what is being said. a supra isnt the same as a civic ( just in case you didnt know) i can get pics for you if you like?! yes??? thats like comparing apples to oranges.

I'm really confused, who is that hood by? Because if it's the same hood I have then it should have been functional from the factory that built it and it wouldn't fit that low down near the bumper (it has the SRT-4 gap).

i really couldn't tell ya might not be the same exact hood but its similar. the hood was all fiberglass, and that is actually 2 hoods , the hood had more damage then i wanted to try to fix when i got it in the mail ( i hate ups) both corner where broke off there was 2 cracks in the middle ( they could be fixed easy) then two cracks ( was broke all the way through) on the outer sides on both sides, then i had to do something about around the head light area bc this hood was originally modded to have rsx head lights on the neon so i just cut like a foot or so off each side and then im molding it to the oem hood. if i can get it to be all smooth and look good im going to use it as a mold and just make a complete fiberglass hood.

was thinking of making a carbon fiber hood, but not 100% sure what i use ( like if i use the same type resin stuff for fiberglass) im still looking into how to do that, bc i have found carbon fiber online for about $15 yard x 12" wide shipped.

Yeah that scoop looks like the Howell scoop (if it's closed) because that's how Howell made them. The scoop portion was molded closed. It is similar to mine though. This came off the red neon with the RSX lights and the fangs coming off the hood?

Yeah. After the time and (wasted) effort on this hood, you coulda bought that "style" hood and just "painted" it and been done. To each his own I guess. That hood = never ending problems.

how do you know it is wasted effort? i just started! just like how do you know its never ending problems? i really dont understand some of you on here, because something might be difficult to fix doesnt mean that it cant be done and wont look good after,

i didnt want to spend 600 on a hood, i might have 150 into this hood when im done with it give or take a few $$ as for the time, doesnt bother me if it ends up being a waste of time, you never know if something is going to work until you try it. and this will be a learning experience for me. but you cant just sit there and say its not going to work if you have not tried it.!

I'm saying for ~$150, you could have had a hood that only needed paint. Instead you've got half fiberglass and have "OE" hood or metal or whatever. It wont ever be perfect or "stable" (for lack of a better term). It's your car, build how you want. I'm off my soapbox. I'm just saying. I saw how your skirts went on and how you primed this car. I don't imagine the hood got special treatment.

ok where am i going to get a non oe hood for less then 150 shipped.??? and do you always have to just pick things out of what i put in my log, if you rear everything you would also know that im not keeping this hood ( fiberglass/oe) hood im planning on using that as a mold. and then having just a complete fiberglass hood. im not trying to build a show car here, if that was the case i wouldn't have tried with all the rust and what not that was and is on this car!

as for the primer, i really dont see what the diff is if i use rattle can automotive primer or use what ever it is you think i should have used.

the funny thing about all this everyone saying that the rockers wont hold they will crack blah blah blah, same about the front lip , well i have bottomed the car out and it didnt crack anything.

but like you said its my car, and i know its going to turn out ok

so for all the haters

I think most people that are picking you apart can agree with this;

Why spend any money on a shell that is rusted to shit? If you saved all the money that you are spending on modding this car, whether it be money you have already spent or money you say your going to spend, you could buy something down the road in better shape. To most people that take pride in modding their cars the right way, they see you as either a hack or someone who doesnt know what they are doing and shouldn't try. Hell, even members have told you that you are doing something wrong you dont listen. Hell I have posted in here saying that I am a body man and that I do this shit for a living and you wont take my word on things.

Keep wasting your money and spending it in the wrong ways. I would think that maybe you would take a lesson from your government down there about how not to spend money.

^ There. We aren't trying to be asshats, Chris. We're trying to help you from dumping cash in here if you're eventually looking for a better shell or something anyway. $10 at a time adds up quickly.

i understand what your saying but most the stuff can be taken back off, like the skirts, front bumper , hood, etc. its not that i dont have the money to pay for a payment for a better shape car its i just dont want a loan, and almost all cars up in my area are like this one, in fact this is in better shape hate to say it the most cars around here, after this hood is finished and the car is painted im not going to be doing anything else to this car ( unless its engine work)

what is the best way to take th R/T side skirts off with out screwing them up. i know im going to have to sand the bondo off the edges but any help would be great, the gf and i have decided to buy a suv, so with in the next 2-3 months we are going to be getting if we can find something she likes, i wont be needing 3 vehicles and im only aloud to have 2 at my apartment so the neon is going. mainly bc my intrepid is in 100000 times better shape, its a bigger car, ( i dont speed in it for some reason and is worth more money)

i am going to still finish the bumper sanding it making it smooth,
but i am going to part the whole car, everything but the rims, those are going on my intrepid.

yes i know you are will say see wasted all that money, which i did, but screw it , cant take it with you. so once we get the suv ( she wants a trailblazer) i will part everything and anything off the car that anyone wants or needs, and i will have two engines ( high mileage 160K+ but both run great. or i will part the engines out and ill also have a compete 5 speed swap. ill post everything in the fs board when the times comes.

paint? they are not painted and the only part that has bondo on the skirts are where they go together and at the ends could have been worse i could have fiber glassed over them. im about 99% sure though that the bondo can be sanded off and you wont even know that they had it on them

Good thing I could be referring to the paint that was on before. Either way, that's a lot of work for skirts that should bolt right on. Not to shit on your parade or anything...

somehow i saw the sale of your neon coming, whether it be changing interests, or caving to peer pressure... i just knew it. That being said GL with your future vehicle (when you get it). If you ever get another neon in the future you know where we are.

i dont want to get rid of the neon, has nothing to do with anyone on here, to be honest, anything that has been said doesnt bother me one bit, but the gf wants a new vehicle then my intrepid and she wants something awd or 4wd, i am only allowed to have 2 cars what i live, and my intrepid is a better car then the neon, and worth more to. so if the gf likes the equinox i found her we might be getting that sooner then i though. that and i dont cave to peer pressure i am my own person i do what i want not what other want me to do.!

and im not going anywhere,im still going to be one here ( thought i would forewarn you all)
i love me neon but i speed to much in it and i have not had a speeding ticking for 3 yrs before i got this car, and i have 3 tickets and i have only owned the car 8-9 months.
all money i make from the part out is going to go 1/2 on the principle of the loan and the other is going to go on a few mods for the intrepid ( nothing serious, just some interior stuff and i need a new rear bumper bc someone rear ended my gf last summer and the gf new got the info from the women. and let it go ( i tell you. i was pissed)

( if its ok with everyone on this site id like to start a log when this all goes down on the intrepid right now everything in 100% stock) and the first thing is being done is the rims i got from dave ( dtjackten ) they are going to get pro painted/powder coated which everone is cheaper and can be done close by then new tires.!
