problems with stereo

Post by dblsg » Thu Oct 06, 2005 9:52 am

okay, the first thing i noticed was that my subs were "popping"... what i'm trying to say is they were playing bass notes outta nowhere. so my first thought was that i blew my amp... so i went to best buy i charged a new amp on my card (and a serious/satelite unit too...). when i got home and whent to change the amp out, i noticed that all my speakers were "popping" and at the same time the interior lights would dim.

wtf... i have upgraded grounds and a cap... keep in mind that by this time the amp was not getting any power and the lights would dim with the car on and off... so it wasn't ground interference.

could it be my head unit?... i hope not, but what do you guys think

i would double check your grounds just to be safe and i would also check your REM wire and RCA's and possibly speaker wire. haha, so just cover all the grounds. just make sure all your connections are good. a ground loop isolator may help but its hard to tell. it could be a number of things.

I had a similar problem and it turned out one of the screws from the install was shorting out on one of the output speaker leads of my sub amp. It actually caused it to backfeed through the RCA's and passed the problem into the other amp when I unhooked the sub to test it.

well i went by best but today, being that i bought the unit from there (with the extended warranty), and the tech told me to bring the car in on sunday.... that most likely is the deck, being that its happening while the car is off.

i'll let you guys know what happens.

Sometimes after i shut my car off the head unit will stay on and make weird ass noises through the speakers. Mine is definately the head unit since it did that before i had the subs.

apparently its the brain to the head unit... its a in dash monitor with dvd player... so the actual brain is a totaly separate component, but yeah, basically the whole unit has to be replaced.
