Oil light trouble

Post by Blue02 » Thu Sep 03, 2009 9:30 pm

So my oil light keeps coming on every time a slow down almost to a stop or the car is at idle but as soon as i begin to accelerate or rev the car the oil light will go away Im thinking its the oil sending unit (hopefully) or the oil pump which it very well could be considering the car has about 150k on it......so any insite into what could be the problem would be appreciated.

Check the oil level. Braking makes the oil move forward.

Is that the oil pressure light you are talking about?

Could be the sensor. My oil pressure light came on everytime I started the car up for the first time that day.

Yeh im guessing its the oil pressure light.......looks like a tea pot with a drip of oil coming out.....thats the best way i can describe it but im gonna replace the oil sending unit tomorrow is that the same thing as the sensor or are they different?

BTW the oil level is fine i just changed the oil yesterday because i thought that was coming on because of the dirty oil but its still kicking on.

Sending unit and sensor are one and the same. It is prolly the first (cheapest) step in diagnosing it. A cheap mechanical gauge would work also, but would take a bit more work, as you would need to tee it or remove it to put the oem sensor back in.

This is why I love having an old-school mechanical gauge. No guessing.
