I haz tiny cute turbo lol. And be proud neon peeps, I totally ran a psuedo 3.0L intake mod on the Miata... 90* elbow straight down to my AFM with my intake bolted onto it, right behind the rad opening

My STANCE coils didn't allow me to run the intake how Greddy says (towards the fire wall with a 180* bend). The coilover is 2.5" taller than stock and I couldn't make it all fit.

I also had to mod my downpipe, cut and reweld. I dunno how the previous owner was running it, it hung WAY down. I couldn't get off the lift!

Haven't gone far, car is running really lean (16-18 AFRs part throttle, never went over 3k), going to try swapping the RX7 AFM for the stock one, hoping that'll fix it so I can go to a car show tonight

Open downpipe is real loud. It hurt my ears going to the gas station. Gotta make a turndown. Can't imagine what a WOT pull will sound like

w00t updates

No, I didn't get cams lol. This was a few days after the turbo went on, it started loping like that. I was like WTF! Sounded cool.... but turns out the cap I had on the one intake hose nipple capping off where the breather filter now is on the valve cover... the pressure in the tube broke the cap and tried sucking it in, causing a big boost leak (hole in my intake tubing right before the throttle body).

Fixed that, it idled normal.

Fast forward about a month? I'm sucking oil into my intake. I'm a turbo newb so I was like wtf!? I figured out it was the compressor seal taking a shit. A huge one. When I took everything off to rebuild the turbo and clean out the intake piping, you should have SEEN how much oil was in my intake mani. Unreal.

(The kit was used--unsure of mileage)

Rebuilt the turbo last weekend, and it was still blowing lots of smoke, had no clue why.. I was pissed. Turns out my heatshield cut my oil feed line where I couldn't see it, and oil was running down the feed line and onto the downpipe. That explains a lot.

New feed line with parts sourced from Summit (SS braided brake line with banjos on either end).

Win so far. I've got about 2k on it since I installed the kit. Still need to figure out the lean issue. Probably will order megasquirt soon.

Turbo rebuild (my first)..

Bought the rebuild kit complete from g-pop shop.

No, I did not get it balanced. I was going by a how to on the volvo forums for the same turbo. They marked the housing on the compressor side and lined up a turbine fin with the hole on the other side, I did the same. They get matched up in reassembly.

FWIW, I think the red turbine fins was caused by the oil burning. I know they are supposed to be white/gray colored dependant upon air/fuel mixture.
