Fireball Muffler?

This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons… just anything that is generally "engine" specific. This also includes questions about exhaust systems such as exhaust manifolds, piping size, mufflers, ect...

Fireball Muffler?

Post by Art » Thu Sep 24, 2009 12:52 pm

Has anyone ever tried a muffler like this on their neon?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/JDM-FIRE ... 06.c0.m245

I'm interested because it costs about $40.00 w/shipping.

I don't want my car to sound like a lawnmower either....just want something to make it sound deeper.

Any suggestions? :D

moving to engine. Exhaust is a tricky one to mess with, however this reviews section is reserved for people giving their reviews of a product.

That appears to be your standard run of the mill fart can.

I wouldn't put it on my car.

i've suggest this set up to a lot of people on this forum, and everyone that i know of that's ran it is VERY happy with the sound.

Go buy a used, stock axel-back SRT piping
buy a 31"
take parts to an exhaust shop, have them weld the glasspack deadcenter of the midpipe, cut off the old muffler, weld in the axel-back.

you'll be amazed at the sound. it's the only thing i miss from my neon.

total cost is about $120 but completely worth it

MAAAAD JDM YO!!!!!!!! LOL
Does this mean it's good or bad?

I used to own a Camaro Z28 before my neon, so I knew what to put into a V8 muscle car. (Borla exhaust, K&N intakes, underdrive pulleys, 3000 Stall Converter, Hypertech tuning, etc)

This is my first 4 cylinder car, and I don't want to sound like a weedeater on wheels!

Any suggestions?

Opi, sounds like a good setup. There is a muffler shop about 2 blocks from my house. I've known the guy for years and always gives me great prices on exhaust and such. Can you believe this guy welded up my whole Camaro setup for $20.00!

I prefer the moroso spiral-flo to the sound of a resonator. And if you put one in toward the front or back, you can calm it down even more by dropping another one in.

Being a 16 valve 4 cylinder, it is very hard to cheaply get a good sound. A single outlet is a little easier to keep the sound level down.
IDK, the eight valve 4's I have owned never souned as "ricey" as the 16 valve.

I have done what Opi suggested, and to me it still sounds like a weed eater. But then, maybe being corn fed, and raised on Chrysler big blocks has had a huge influence on what sounds good to me.
Right now I have a Walker Quiet Flow V6 Camaro muffler, with a small resonator in the mid pipe. It is prolly a touch louder than the stock R/T muffler. Not sure why they call them quiet flow, but maybe for the intended application, with oem resonators intact, it might be quiet.

it still doesn't sound anywhere near as good as a V8, but it's one of the better setups i've hard on a 4 cyl outside of subbies.

That would be great, anybody have a clip of this muffler (the fireball style).

I used to have a Borla Catback on my V8 Camaro (sounded extra sweet and rumbled low!)

I never though about putting a V6 Camaro muffler on it...sounds like an idea.

I have a setup idea...3 inch piping from the header back, then a Folgers Coffee Can, and a 6 inch tip! (just kidding!)

The fart can (or cannon as others call it) eliminates the restriction of the muffler. If you're trying to make more power for the least amount of money possible, this is the best way.

It will sound slightly better than a civic (because of engine size and gearing) but not much.

Yeah, gearing has everything to do with the sound of an engine.

I have a oval single inlet single outlet straight through muffler welded into an SRT-4 exhaust and it sounds very nice. No droning and a nice deep tone when you lay into the throttle. This is the second Neon I have had an oval muffler on and I swear by them. Those round fart cans don't allow enough room for the sound to deaden so once they wear in a little they sound like shit IMO.

Straight pipe, no cat straight through muffler ftw

ok folks. When cruising with my ATX at 80 mph i'm doing around 3000 rpms. Tell me that doesn't get annoying quick on the highway with a fart can. It's obnoxious, loud, and drones with my setup but I love it.

If you put this piece on a caravan with a "better" final gear you'd be doing around 2000 rpms at 80 mph. The exhaust note would be less on the highway. :thebirdman:

Have to agree with opi's setup. Similar setup I run as well. It's been commented on a number of times for sounding pretty decent for a 4 banger.
