Thinking about buying a S2000
Thinking about buying a S2000
So a guy local to me lost his job awhile back.... he needs to get rid of his car for pay off asap because the bank is going to repo it soon. (fk up his credit at the same time)
So he is just selling it for pay off.
It's a 2000 and white...
Has a catback exhaust/test pipe/cai
I compression tested it and all is good....doesn't leak anything.
It is mechanically sound.
The body isn't in the BEST shape... it has aftermarket fenders that are not TOO gaudy... just has a small vent on each one. (annoys me but they are not too bad)
Has paint chips here and there... it just really needs a lot of love body wise.
Heres the thing he wants pay off with is $5300.
That's like Integra pricing for a S2K....
I'm really debating on snagging it.....and selling the 240 to put towards the loan. Then I'd only owe around $2500 for a 00 S2K.
Opinions?
Thing is I'm saving money for bills and what not so I wont be able to paint it or replace the fenders FAST....but it'd come in due time.

man, that is a toughy.
I love your 240 right now, and well, would rather you have it compared to the S2k. ALTHOUGH, i voted yes. Why? Because i fucking love S2k's. They sound amazing. Super light. And you can swap 2jz-gte motors in them
How many miles is on that thing anyways?
Oh, and they don't produce S2k's anymore either. And your getting it for mad cheap

88k miles on a 2000... so it's not too bad.
The body isnt THE BEST... but it's not that bad.
I keep looking at it as..
RWD ---> RWD
130hp --- > 240hp
Coupe --- > Coupe
No A/C -- > A/C + Drop Top
I don't know... seems like a win-win deal....
I love my 240 but this S2K handles like a dream.... and eventually can look nice.
I think I might try to do it... we'll see.

Well I'm not going to be hurting for money if I get it... I could afford to mod it but then I'd be paying minimum payments on bills.
I'd rather leave it as-is and pay off credit cards faster though
squash the credit car debt then look for a car, imho... however AC is quite nice.LowNSlow wrote:neonpla wrote:I say don't go for it, i understand its a great deal however your finances are more important.

This is one hell of a deal. If you don't go insane with it this car should be pretty reliable for quite a while, and be fun to drive.
If it isn't going to break you, or put you on the edge, I say get it and don't mod it.

Yea... as of now I am thinking No though...
I've put a lot of work into my 240 and you know me.. I need to stick to one fricken car.
This car would only add maybe $150 a month to my bills...but that $150 month can be added to double up on something else.
Or I can just put a few hundred into mine and have the DOHC motor + A/C.
Like I said though as of now... I'm leaning towards no for the above reasons + I like having my back seat so my doggy can ride with.
It's REALLY extremely hard to pass up a S2000 for $5,000. If the economy was better I'd snatch it in a heart beat and flop it.. but I have a feeling I'd be sitting on it for a bit.

Yea, I read up on all the first year car issues... this one didn't seem to have them.... but I'm still passing on it.bone-yard-racing wrote:Huge pain in the ass to work on. Parts are fairly expensive mod parts are really expensive. Its hard to mod without screwing up the car. The first year cars have quite a few issues. Make sure to research the car and know what you are getting yourself into
When I move home in a year...get my own house.. then I'll turn the 240 into a toy... (maybe v8 swap or something) and get a newer Civic to DD.

Going from liability on the 240 to full coverage on the S2K would be like $50 a month difference.Pocahontas wrote:Hate to sound like a party pooper but... what would the insurance and maintenance costs look like?
I already nixxed the idea of this S2K.... it's not in the shape I'd like one to be in.
I can't believe you chucked it over the 240.
The older ones had problems and the prices for parts suck, but they're really reliable cars. I would never buy one to mod it out, if you want to be fast do it on another platform...
Shit tell your friend to sell it to me

I'd buy it anyway. Put you 240 us as collateral and resell the S2K for a few grand more. If it really is as nice as you say it is and as cheap as you say it is, why would you NOT resell it for more?
S2Ks are finally becoming reasonable and especially the older models. I'm sure you can find someone who wants it for $10,000 as a toy. Get it back to stock or as close to it as possible and detail the hell out of it. Make sure it shows extremely well and push it off on someone for a hefty profit. If you paid to have the paint chips fixed and touched up, it could really be in your favor and prolly double your investment with just that bit.
I'd reconsider. You don't have to fall in love with it. Make some money and move on.

I would deff buy it.
1) s2k is a great car. Very easy to work on and not much can go wrong with it.
2) Even if you dont plan to keep it. I would buy it and put it for sale. Even if you buy it for $5.300 and resale for 7.500 (well under KBB value) KBB says $9.300 (Good) $8.500 (Fair)
Even if you let it go for 7.500 You still looking at $2.200 in your pocket. That cash can be put towards the 240.
So yea go for it.
