what makes it slushie

Post by w0158981 » Sun Sep 27, 2009 11:31 pm

so i'm online doin some reading and i'm just curious as to what part of the transmission is it that makes it so much slower? Is it the wet clutchs? Is it the valve body itself? i know that a hi stall tourque converter can increase launch times but what about the valve body?

If anyone can answer this it be greatly appreciated and if you have any sites you think i sdhould read let me know

Well, I'm gonna leave the technical info to the experts. Too my knowledge, the loss of power comes from the torque converter not being as stable, and quick, in transferring the power from the engine to the transmission, as a manual is.

^Opinion. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Now, in the case of making it 'better', there are 'reverse manual valve-bodies' that you can buy for the 3-speed that allow you to shift like a manual. These allow you to shift at more powerful rpm ranges and keep it in the best possible gear when you need it (like a manual).

Yes, the TC is what consumes the bulk of the power. It is essentially just a fluid coupling. Granted the clutches take a little more, but once coupled, the parasitic drag is not as much. What also is hurting performance, is the lack of available gears, compared to an MTX. The additional gears help keep the engine at peak torque.

An automatic transmission is a hydraulic pump.

A manual trans are gears in an oil bath, no pumping.

it takes more power to pump fluid than it does to run gears in fluid, most of the time.

yes because of the extra final gear and the overdrive
