screamin' demon

Post by 22stars » Tue Oct 11, 2005 1:23 pm

so if fedex decides to shape up i'll have my screamin' demon ignition coil today from howell automotive ( i stayed home all day wednesday 10/05 and friday 10/07 and they never came by) ... so i have checked all the how to's and i've done a search here and came up with nothin' that answers my question ...

how do i do it? is it seriously that easy that we don't a "how to" already written up? is there anything i need to be aware of (besides disconnecting my battery)? is there anything i need to be sure to hook up?

thanks for any help you can give me here guys ... i'll update everyone as soon as i get it installed as well as any necessary how to directions i can come up with

It's really that easy, and to be honest as long as the key isn't on you don't even need to disconnect the battery as the coils power is switched by the key. A 10mm socket, a 6" extention, and don't forget to remove the red locking tab so you can un-plug it.

...so just a 10mm socket (have it)...

...a six inch extension (believe i have it)...

...and remove the tab ... oh yeah and keep my key in my pocket...

...where exactly is this tab located?...

...fedex just called from the trace i put on it, they said they will deliver it tomorrow!!!...

Yeah, Fedex is probably the worst home delivery service. I ordered something from newegg.com and believe it or not, the package was ahead of schedule by two days. It was on the truck "for delivery" so I told my brother that morning, I'm expecting something. Since i always have my laptop on me at school, I checked throughout the day to see if has been delivered. Nada. The next day. Nada.
Finally, the day that it was scheduled to be delivered, they finally updated the page that tracks my package and it said, "Returned to facility, package not due."

I was like, "WTF!!!" Instead of delivering something ahead of schedule, they decided to send it back to their sorting station because it was ahead of schedule. They suck. Plus, they usually arrive late. I've never received a package from Fedex before 4pm.

Let us, or at least me, know how the coil pack is. I need to change mine sooner or later.

Once you open your hood and look at it you'll realize how easy and strait forward it is. Just read the instructions provided with it and be sure to gap your plugs to the recommended width.

right behind the coil pack, got it

and i will be sure to tell you all about it ... can't wait to see how much this helps...

...and thanx diablo - i figured it is by looking at it a little more in depth earlier - and the new iridium plugs are gapped to .065 and waiting to go in with the new ignition...

The connector is actually on the side of the coil pack closest to the battery, Below and between the plug wires.

its weird, coz i for example get stuff from them super fast from the states, faster than from inside canada  i HATE waiting for parts though... i waited most of the day today waiting for UPS to come before going to bed (i work graves)... passed out around 3 in the afternoon when i couldnt hold my eyes open so now i have to do the same thing tomorrow when they try again

I heard it was pointless to put a new coil pack on...i remember reading something on the SRT forums about it, they ran the stock one vs screaming demon. and they found that the stock one was better. I wouldnt replace it unless its broke

...i've always had problems with fedex ... UPS was always on time here ... wierd...

i haven't gotten it on yet, hopefully i'll have it by lunch time and i'll be able to put it in on my break ... but i will let you know

i hope it smooths mine out, that's one of the advantages i've read of ... and am hoping for

...but isn't the SRT4 coil pack going to be a little more intense anyway to compensate for the larger engine and the turbo while these screamin' demons are basically designed for something that isn't putting out that power stock?...

*UPDATE*

W00T!

just put it on on my lunch about twenty minutes ago ... and i am so damn happy i spent the money - but time will tell

the idle smoothed, then engine sounds more growly, there's more pull, and it just was so damn easy to install...

also i had mentioned in another post of mine that i am too lazy to find and link to that i was getting a humming sort of sound when my engine idled which is usually around 550-600 RPMs - well it's still there but quieter (much quieter) and actually sounds good

yeah, thanks man

but unfortunately as i said time will tell and it already has done something strange

when i pulled out of the gas station this evening it seemed to misfire, but only when i was in reverse, no code thrown though ... just seemed to stop for a second ... and it did it again when i was parking at my apartment ... i checked the plugs and wires and the connector to the ignition itself and it seemed fine - so i went out for another ride and tried to replicate the situation but failed to...

...maybe my PCM is just trying to acclimate, i don't know - hopefully it was just a fluke and all will be good, i have QUITE a bit of driving to do this weekend.

was going for the MSD, correct - so i continued to research across multiple forums, especially the comments gary howell made on here and was able to get the screamin demon cheaper through howell so i figured i'd try it out first and/or if it gave me any issues i would move on to the MSD and report here with all of my findings

so yeah - within the next three to six months i'll pick up the MSD and do this all over - i've strted carrying a notepad in my car and recording all occurences including time/date and weather conditions

i will keep all of you informed

zzzzzzz......
oh its not worth it, we told you so
Just kidding, let us know your results:
0-60
MPG
ETC......
Then do the same with the MSD, we are all looking for more power, its just trying to find where to get it....
I am more than willing to get 10hp for under $100, but when it comes to 10hp for over $300....its not worth it.
Someone has to experiment for others, I already proved that the TPS and IAT mod does nothing...what did it cost me, around $300-$400 for all the equipment to do a basic test.
Personally, ALL the power to you.....
Please advise us all on your results, I almost bought a MSD coil for my R/T then I had second thoughts since over 90% of everyone here states its not worth it....
Keep us updated :)

*UPDATE*

dammit ... they couldn't get it to misfire all day - they said they took her out a few times and some of the mechanics were having fun with it (WTF???) then he said J/K but like i said, can't get it to replicate

so they replaced my PCV valve and cleaned the system as well as uploading some software that i apparently should have had (??? why didn't i have it?) ... told me i should clean my TB (i will be replacing it w/ an MPx 60mm soon instead) and i should get a high pressure fuel injector cleaning

they'll be picking me up to get her back in a little bit, and i'll go around and tear it up a little later on, unfortunately i won't have computer access tonight but i will let you all know if it's fixed tomorrow (at least if i can tell) because if it was from me resetting my comp. then y'all gots nothing to worry about with the screamin' demon - it honestly seemed like it was doing fine til i got those misfires ... the dealer said they did a full diagnostic and no codes came up whatsoever - i even stopped at an autozone to get the codes checked within the same key cycle and about 3 minutes of one misfire and got nothing

the dealer also said that i am far from down a cylinder and all my injectors are working perfectly fine - loooks like i'm about to do ALOT of driving tonight.

- Tony

P.S.: when i reset my comp. i -
1. took pos. term. to neg. term. and held it there for about 60 sec.
2. hooked it back up
3. turned key to ON (engine OFF)
4. turned on headlights (about 15 sec.)
5. watched check engine light flash a couple times
6. turned off headlights
7. took out key and had a cigarette
8. started the car and notice timing was different and had a little more pull, as well as a different idle altogether

DCx just released a NEW combustion chamber cleaner that cmoes in a big bottle and you empty the entire contents into your gas tank then top it off with fresh fuel and go.
They came out with this since the HEMI's were having the same problem. And they said to use this to help it..Its like $20 a bottle, and no its not the spray cleaner either..
Try that stuff out. I had a misfire in cylinder one that took the dealership 1 week to duplicate. It ended up being carbon buildup and a plugged injector...

*UPDATE*

so last night i went home and chilled out for a bit and waited to give the car about a 3 hour soak to cool down and i went out to my girl's house (about a twenty minute drive) and we wnt out and drove home all with no problems and no misfires ... but this morning i let the car warm up a little while and had to get moving, so guess what? - about eight more misfires in the same key cycle during my twenty minute drive, but after i got off the freeway they stopped...

so i stopped by the dealer and they said there wasn't anything they could do and i'll have to leave her there overnight to see how she reacts in the morning when cold - which i cannot do with my other job ... and i'd have to pay for a rental car, which i can't do right now.

any suggestions anyone? - i really need help with this, i only have 30,080 miles on my car and i really don't want to have to take the screamin demon out - i like it and can feel the difference and well, i did spend about $75 on it

please help

Put your stocker on, and exchange it for a new one. Thats what i would personaly do. If the new one does the same thing... return it and get your money back. Sorry to hear about all this trouble, but it happens!
