Camshaft position sensor CKL Intermittent. its a 2004 sxt 2.0 sohc. i checked the wires and found a break in it. thought that was my problem, repaired the wire and cleared the codes. upon next startup, the CEL came back on immediately. I guessed that the frayed up wire may have caused the sensor to burn out. so i replaced the sensor and still had the same issue. can anyone help me out with this? I hope so haha :beatstick: thanks

Im pretty confident in the wire repair. im just wondering if the connector created resistance causing the sensor to read incorrectly. what else could it be? Possibly Crankshaft Pos. Sensor?

I would solder/shrink tube the wire back together if at all possible. A butt connector shouldn't give you trouble for a temporary fix, but over time it can corrode and then you will have issues.

If the wire had shorted to ground before it was discovered, possibly it damaged the circuit in the PCM, but don't hold me to that.
I would get a JY CPS and install it. Sometimes the aftermarket ones aren't much better than a failed one. Go for as old of one as you can find. Seems a lot of NGC cars have the CPS issue. Any year from '95 to '05 will work.

Sure. Hammers work well for stuff like that. Iron block, so nothing to worry about there.

In all seriousness, what about the crank sensor are you having problems with? It's one bolt.
Fix it 'till it's broken. Then upgrade.

I know the '02 - older ones tend to break off. You have to put a screw into it and pull it out that way. Of course if you don't know for sure if the crank sensor is the problem, you may be scrapping a good sensor.

Looks like you could wedge a screwdriver between the block and the sensor and try to lever it off.

Check the orange wire on the Cam and crank sensors for 5 volts.

Cam PS:
Check the black/light blue wire for continuity to ground. Key needs to be on. It grounds through the PCM, so I'll assume it should be on. The Tan/Yellow is the signal.

Might be a PITA, and not likely, but the cam magnet may be damaged.
