Intake/Head Porting

Post by racer12306 » Sun Oct 18, 2009 10:16 pm

Just wondering if anyone who has ported a head or intake, beyond just the normal cleanup, has ever put these parts on a flow bench to match the flow on all cylinders?

Just normal cleanup and port match over here, but I would also be interested to see if anyone has spent some time on the flow bench.

No, flowbenching is spendy for us thrifty bastards.
But if you want to talk texturing, direction manipulation, and velocity theory, I can help with that. :)
Fix it 'till it's broken. Then upgrade.

Only issue I see with not flowing these parts is a mismatch between cylinders.

If you're that worried about it, just be consistent with your porting method (start on the right, move to the left, etc) and record the amount of time it takes for each runner/port etc. That will get you close enough.

There is a DIY flowbench on one of the forums i've been on, I think its GarageJournal, that I think would be neat to make.

Considering how the as cast ports look, you really can't do much worse. ;)

IDK if I would use time as a measure, based on what I just said.

Possibly a better way, would be to use some kind of template, and measure the fluid volume of the port, with the valves installed.
