Factory freak PCM?!

Post by soul_sword34 » Sat Oct 24, 2009 2:49 pm

Finished my MTX swap and just got back from a quick run and found out my ATX PCM revs to 6,700 rpm. It hits 6,500 and goes a little past then it cuts the engine. Is that normal? I thought and have always thought we needed to switch to a MTX PCM to get a higher shift. Mine is a 2000 PCM so.....

Pretty sure that's normal. Just shouldn't rev any higher than 4500 in neutral. But I could be wrong.

Yes, 6750 RPM is correct for an ATX PCM.

From what I have heard / read, Chrysler limited the ATX PCM's to 6750, due to the limitations of the torque converter.

I will go back and look..... 2nd gens may all be the same.
MTX PCM's on the 1st gen Neons had a higher rev limit, depending on the PCM and the engine (DOHC vs.SOHC, Mopar Performance, AFX, etc.)

so there's really no reason to change the PCM out with an MTX swap then, other than the torque lockup check engine light.

i'm hoping it will work the same for the 2002's when i do my swap. Since i don't feel like having to get another pcm and have it flashed, just to make the car run.

There is a reason to change it, just cant think of it.

Pretty sure you can't free rev it above 4500. Thats one reason.

won't rev above 4000 if the clutch is pushed in... CEL will likely be on. otherwise all good.
