Random Electrical Prob Air bag, blower, pwr windows, defrost

Post by Thomsy » Sat Oct 24, 2009 8:11 pm

Hey guys. I've got a random electrical problem thats comes and goes on my 2001 RT MTX. There is no set pattern how it comes and goes. Cold or hot. Doesnt matter. First the beeper will sound like the door is open or seat belt is not clipped. Then the air bag light will come on the dash. Then I lose my power windows, blower motor, and rear defrost. They all lose complete power but everything else works. Fuses are all good. Ive started tracing wires but it is quite a pain because of what a shitty job previous owner did on remote start system. Does anyone know what location all these systems wiring would have in common other then the computer??? Thanks guys
Have to diagnos this ASAP cuz winter is a coming here in Canada.

Maybe a relay or something controls all of them? id guess theres a common link between all of them, and that would be your problem.

How old is your battery?

Start out with the basics, I've learned from my mistakes....
Make sure the battery connections are clean and tight. Then check the ground points on the upper radiator support and the ground strap near the airbox on the inner fender area just below the pdc. The loose battery connection caused charging problems on my R/T causing strange electrical issues. Also the ground straps on the rad support ground the entire front wiring harness, I can disconnect the passenger side ground strap with my headlights on and my wipers will turn on....

those all share a common ground to the firewall under the dash. Looking in the manual it's G203 which should be almost directly behind the traction control/defogger button etc. Look for that ground I'd say it's your best bet.

^I agree. Sounds like a ground problem for sure.

There are two grounds in that general area my book is for an '02 so I can't tell you if the color is the same but G203 is black/yellow. The other just shows black it's G201. Looking at the picture again it may be higher G203 is the upper one here:

If that doesn't do it pop the top dash and make sure all those connections are tight.

gona hafta pull my dash soon i guess and the cluster.

Also oddly enough i did not lose accessory power while I was testing and looking for it. cars are funny like that.

black orange into the 1st breaker goes

battery --> ignition switch --> power windows, breaker #1,fuse 5,6,7 now the airbag is also from ignition switch pin 2(run) it's a dark blue wire. I would look at the harness in the steering column for a loose/melted? wire.
