Smoke coming out of one pipe?

This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons… just anything that is generally "engine" specific. This also includes questions about exhaust systems such as exhaust manifolds, piping size, mufflers, ect...

Smoke coming out of one pipe?

Post by DuhNeon179 » Thu Oct 29, 2009 4:10 pm

Well let me tell you this first even though it has nothing to do with my engine, but I'm pissed people decided to smoke dutch cigars in my car :beatstick:. Anyways I jumped in my car just now and went to my friends house (using his computer obviously) and I noticed when I turn around to look at my bad parking skills that my exhaust was smoking. Now If you all don't know, I have an SXT with the SRT-4 exhaust. Smoke was coming out of one tail pipe. If you are looking at the car from behind it's the right exhaust tip. It was white smoke and it didn't seem like the smoke that comes out when you first start the car. Like the Engine cold smoke. Any possible reasons?

It just travels the path of least resistance. Smoke out of one exhaust exit isn't unheard of. Happens on both of my cars sometimes.

Was it running, or you had just shut it off, looking back?

If the latter, then it was prolly just residual vapor. Running it should come out both, if it is an oem SRT rear section. They are pretty well balanced. The aftermarket ones, with a pipe welded on as a second thought, I can definately see them only exiting out one side. By their very nature, they create a vacuum on the other pipe. It's like blowing air across a straw.

Your car is on fire. Probably from that SRT-4 pipe. You'd better take it off.

No, it is not a concern really... Just vapor going out one side and not both.

Well as long as it's not a great big concern, from what I'm understanding here. It was not running by the way, I just turned it off looked back and smoke was coming out.

It's a female car, she just enjoyed having you inside her, she was having a smoke afterwards.
