Need help.. Might swap out motor and need suggestions..

Post by Haganracing » Fri Oct 30, 2009 5:57 pm

my dad and I might pull the motor out and replace it.. I have a 2002 Dodge Neon sxt 2.0 non-mag.

Can anyone here give me a little info on what to do.

Would swapping an auto to a manual be hard?

Would a 2.4 stratus motor bolt up to the stock automatic transmission in my neon?

Any suggestions would be great!

Pretty sure 2.4 will bolt up to your trans.

Only hard part about auto to manual is the clutch cables and shifter cables and that stuff..

Awesome! I hope it does hook right up, i wouldn't mind a 2.4 n/a engine in my car.. give it a little more power and if it bolts right up, i could do a manual transmission later on (hopefully).

My dad and I are going to the junkyard on sunday morning and hopefully we find a decent engine for a good price.

If you are pulling the motor that would be the best time to run all your cables for the trans. swap

I'm pretty sure the one motor mount is different. And something to do with the power steering is different too.

They make adapters for the 1gn so I'd imagine something is made if they aren't the same for the 2gn.

Well if i go with the 2.4, i might do boost later.

Chris (hul kogan) is helping me out a lot with info and its greatly appreciated!

Thanks everyone for the info.

I guess if the 2.4 doesnt go thru, i might do a magnum r/t engine swap with mani trans.. since it will still be an upgrade from my 2.0 non mag automatic.

I wouldn't think an '02 or older PT engine would be an issue. And no the N/A engine is not as beefed as the turbo.

The pedal box swap is by far the hardest part of the MTX swap. The 2.4 will bolt in with SRT mounts
