Stock Head Unit interchange

Post by excon » Fri Oct 30, 2009 10:25 pm

I asked this on the other .org but I needed more information:

The radio in my '95 neon stopped working. No clock and completely unresponsive. I'd like a stock chrysler deck with a tape or cd player in it (it's not for me although i'll be the one installing it). Will a second gen neon deck fit the dimentions and just plug right up to the antenna and wiring harness? I'd rather not rip out both radios from my first and second gen to figure this out...

I'm sure some experts can chime in here, but I'm gonna say no..
Based on the fact that I had a 96 Caravan with stock radio...and I have an 04 Neon..
have messed with both radios and they are 2 different beasts.

Don't know the cut off years, but the 96 I had had square corners, the 2nd gen 04 radio had ronded corners...both different sizes and with completely different connectors

I think up to 98 0r 99? may have the same connector style, but I'm not sure on the faceplate design.

They switched from a two connector style to a single, smaller pin type. If you havew the pin outs, and a pigtail from the donr car, you could make any radio work, if you don't mind reworking the bezel around the radio. Or you could check out LKQ on ebay for used take outs (oem and aftermarket), I believe they list what they fit, tho they don't promise anything.

Probably shouldn't listen to anything your penis says, that guy's a dick.

Eh, ok problem solved. Stole my sister's stock '97 head unit and put it into the '95. Took literally 10 minutes.

I took out the '95 AM/FM stereo and put in the AM/FM + tape player from the '97. The two connectors were on different sides and different places on the back of the '97 unit. It had me worried for a second.

Luckily the grey and black clips were the same and fit.
