front brakes

Post by LyricsNLines » Tue Nov 03, 2009 3:06 pm

I need new front brakes, i've had whats on my car for 4-5 years now and its time to change cause of a light squeel. Whats recommended these days? Kinda on a eco budget, But I want to stay within the standard/premium stage.

I agree the redstuff pads are great but they may bite a little too much for your average DD.

I'd say hawk prostreet pads and some good rotors from Napa should run you around $100-150 maybe.

Thats what I"m running. Can't say I'm happy with the life I have out of the pads though. Insides are brand new, outsides are almost shot.

:withstupid: Napa rotors are pretty good. I like the autozone ceramic pads because they're cheap and perform well.

I have the prostreets now with some ebay drilled rotors and they've served me a long good time. Although I have recently noticed why my noise is coming, the inside of the pad is severly worn compared to the outside.

OEM rotors and Raybestos brakes. 20k and still problem free. Brakes still look like new.

Do you guys have any complaints with the Yellowstuff pads?

I have the Hawx pads right now, but every once in a while when I'm ripping around, I feel like they suddenly fade away a bit. I plan to go to Pocono open track day next year, so I'm looking for something that can stop me very well on the street and keep me on the track.

Then again, sometimes as soon as I get on the brakes a bit they lock right up, so maybe harder isn't always better without ABS.

If your tires are locking up quick, getting newer, grippier tires will improve your braking some.

I can very easily make them lock up and I just got these tires a bit ago, but apparently they're not the best. In the rain I have to be in low gears to help me slow down or I WILL lock them up. However, they perform quite well around tight turns (as long as the air pressure is up), just can't stop sometimes.
