Shorty VS Longtube

Post by Caraudioholic24 » Wed Nov 04, 2009 4:14 am

Ok I have a chance to pick up a R/T Kirk Longtube header from a member on here for cheap.

Now I was planning on getting the obx shorty style w/cat delete to get a little better power and exhaust note as I have a large glasspack installed. I have an 05 SXT ATX so I know gains wont be crazy but subtle. Now my question is whats better for the ATX the shorty or the longtube. Also will the R/T fit my head without any issues?? Ive heard that there need sto be a little welding done to make any 2gn bolt up. Any help would be awesome as I would hate to pass this deal up if it will work in my favor. (I want something to compliment my Mag intake manifold ans I plan on getting an R/T head later on down the road.) Thanks in advance

I think a shorty would actually be better if you have an ATX. Longtube gives you more top end power? (over 6k where an atx does not go).

I don't think you'll need to fabricate or have anything welded as long as your header has four bolts at the flange. That will bolt up to your stock downpipe.

KEEP YOUR CAT! Trust me.

actually u will need to tweek the exhaust because of the angle, otherwise your downstream O2 sensor may not clear.

I have a long tube on my ATX. Worst mod ever. Not only will you need some modifications to keep it quiet, it really doesn't add much power on the butt dyno.

Yea Im getting the Mag intake Fri. My problem is with my Kaminari body kit I have the dual manaflow exhaust. I put in a large glasspack to quiet my SRT 4 rear section. Now its WAY too dam quiet. Thats why I wanna get a header and possibly get rid of the cat so the sound woill be comparable to what I had. I wanna get a Wideband gauge as well so the 02 sensor wont be a crazy issue as Ill wel in another o2 bung. I just want to get the best bang for my buck really. The OBX comes with the shorty style and the downpipe. If I get that how much work is it gonna be to install it?

Thanks for all the replys

The OBX will be an easier install. Almost plug and play.
The longtube will need some definate mods to your exhaust. And you prolly will want some aftermarket torque struts, to keep the LTH from smacking the firewall/crossmember.

I put an AFX long tube on my 98 neon. Best mod I ever did to the car.
