Ive out grown my cute little turbo!

Post by Jamie » Wed Nov 04, 2009 1:57 pm

well I know the time would finally come where my 16g just isn't enough anymore. So with that said, I am looking at options and opinions for an upgrade.

I have the engine for pretty much what ever I want. The car is my weekend toy so not really a daily driver.

Here's what I got going...

ENGINE
2.0 bored 20 over
JE pistons 8.6:1
Eagle connecting rods
Magnum Head swap ported to both intake and exhaust manifolds
Crane cam hell I think its a 12, the turbo one with crane springs
hahn manifold with t3 flange
16g turbo
Sidewinder FMIC.

FUEL
Boomba fuel rail
Aeromotive 1:1 fpr
1000cc RC injectors
walboro FP with bypass
Megasquirt 3.57, with peak and hold running full sequential

now here are some of the turbo's I am considering. a Super 20g, a Holset HY35, a gt35, or maybe a borg warner turbo just not sure of model yet...

Im looking for some advice from some bigger turbo guys about how they like them, and spool times, etc. I do have an auto trans HOWEVER... its got a Steve Lockett parts rebuild and modification with an RMVB. It will hold just fine.

Thanks!
J

I'm using the s362. It's quite awesome. There are guys making over 700 with them. It doesn't make full boost until about 5k, so it's probably a bit big for ya. Maybe an extended tip s258. That gets you around the max flow of a 35r, but quicker spool. Oh yea. We sell em at the cheapest price allowed, so if you want BW, talk to me first.

That s258 looks pretty damn impressive from what I have been reading on duh internetz.
Eric, were you talking about the .70 or the .55 A/R? and whats the difference between the s258 and the s259, you don't have the 258 listed in your price list so just curious.

for anyone else reading this, take a look at this website... http://www.turbos.bwauto.com/products/t ... pment.aspx

The BW engineers repeatedly run the turbo until it is glowing red at 3million bazillion rpms... and then shut it off. then turn it back on, then shut it off, etc... If the turbo develops any crap on the shaft and bearings from the oil cooking...then they say it failed... that's pretty amazing stuff considering garret still uses a snail from WWII that's relatively unchanged

Very cool! Good to know they really put their products through the ringer.

I pulled into the garage one night and popped my hood only to find my exhaust housing and downpipe glowing a lot like the picture in that article.

The difference is 1mm. The exhaust side remains unchanged. It's a little more flow, but it's unlikely you would ever notice the difference.

I like the .55 A/R for a street turbo for quick spool, but the .70 A/R is better for top end power. It's all dependant on the way you want to drive the car.

Yes, and Bullseye further improves them. The most technologically advanced turbos out there.

Bullseye!
My buddy was a test car for the original BW extended tip 50trim and it really was a badass turbo!
