Anyone put rod ends on their shift cables? (aka Kyle mod)

Questions about axles, transmissions, differentials, pretty much anything that connects the engine to the wheels, this is the place for those questions.

Anyone put rod ends on their shift cables? (aka Kyle mod)

Post by dawm » Sat Nov 07, 2009 7:15 am

Wondering if any 2g owners have done the 'Kyle Mod', replacing the bushing end of the shift cables with rod ends, i need to do it to a set of 2g cables for my 1g (needed the extra length) but i dont see how its possible. the driverside cable bottoms out against the flat portion where the adjuster goes, where as the 1g cable doesnt leaving room to thread the end.

if you dont know what i'm talking about here is some pictures of it done on a 1g.

I broke mine swapping my stock shifter for an SRT shifter. Do a search on the other .org for 'kyles rod end mod'... just cut the cable, thread it, and thread on the rod end. Its been working fine in my car for quite a few years now. I have Boogers on the tranny side, and rod ends in the interior.

Ugh! I seen a post that had pics, different than the one you linked, but I can not find it.

Too much time spent here is a sign of a bad case of Ownaneonvirus.
