Being politically correct..

Post by Haganracing » Mon Nov 09, 2009 4:10 pm

Obama called the Christmas tree a holiday tree..

WTF Obama, don't change my Christmas tree's name god damnit!

I’m so sick of people having to be "politically correct" Seriously.. We have laws protecting everyone from everything.. What ever happened to freedom of speech..

I don’t care if you pull a rug out and pray during class, I don’t care if you want to spin your dradle on the table I’m sitting at. Its your religion and your RIGHT to do so. But it seems like no one can do anything anymore, “one nation under god” is always being argued over.. Just let it be, seriously.. Almost everyone grew up saying it, and if you don’t believe in god.. Just stand there and show respect to the nation at least.

Sorry to rant, but im just so sick of watching our freedom being pulled right from under us..

I mean, this isn't even about Obama, other people have called it a holiday tree.. but it sparked my rant!

This is about schools pulling out the "under god".

This is about not allowing prayer in school.

This is about calling it "winter break".. even if the days off fit in PERFECT with Christmas break!

If the Christmas tree is to be called a holiday tree, will the candles of the menorah be called "holiday candles"?

How come it really has to come down to this... Its because of stupid people who feel offended because they ran out of stuff to bitch about.

I feel I lost freedom of my religion (and it doesn’t just effect my own religion, all religions are becoming “politically correct”) because of this and many other things. It really shows that people are so afraid to speak out and be CORRECT.

I for one will never be politically correct, I will not become brainwashed and lose everything I grew up with!

This HAS to stop, this is not right!

There is room to have everyone's religion everywhere. Besides, exposure to multiple religions will help allow kids to understand, and show what other religions are all about.

I'll say merry christmas, or christmas tree or whatever just so I don't have to hear people bitch and moan about it.

I do agree with the OP in a way. I don't bitch about the Christian church taking over much older holidays and making them their own. I'm fine with whatever you call it so long as no one makes a big deal out of it. It gets too confusing

Good point as well. You get all the grief of what to say to someone without "offending" them (curse of retail) but without any real opinion of your own other than "Really? It makes that big a deal to you?"

I may be assuming here a bit though.

Well.. Honestly. We're allowed to express who we are. If an employee wants to say Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas, or whatever else they can. I usually just say "Have a nice day." Our signage has Hanukkah, Christmas, and Kwaanza on them.

Last year I had some old wombat customer complain to me because one of my employees said "Happy Holidays" to them. The employee was Jewish and didn't celebrate Christmas. This customer seriously wasted 20 minutes of my time saying how disrespectful it was and how our company should be ashamed that we don't allow our employees to say Merry Christmas. After the customer was done I said "We do allow our employees to express whatever greeting they want to give, it just so happens that the employee that served you is Jewish if you couldn't tell by the Star of David pendant around their neck, and she felt it would be disrespectful to you if she said Happy Hanukkah since she noticed your cross around your neck. So if you're finished you can have a Happy Kwanzaa." and I walked away.

Every year I wait for the "WAR ON CHRISTMAS" to appear on the news. Seriously people get a life and take a chill pill. The holidays are suppose to be about getting the family together and remembering what is really important, Not labels.

Best point yet. The seasons meaning gets lost with just about every belief it seems.

I'm agnostic, I try not to celebrate the holiday but I'm typically forced into it by my loved ones.

However, I also hate being told I MUST buy presents for people on a single day. No thank you, I like to give gifts year round, thank you very much.

It's not that I'm a scrooge, I just hate any religion associated with a specific day.

On that note, fuck being politically correct. If someone tells me "merry christmas" I say it right back, same with "happy Hanukkah." I may not be into either holiday, but it's called being polite goddamnit.

I'm not religious, but I like my Christmas tree. I don't care if people say "One nation under God", as long as they don't require me to. Everyone's just so afraid of offending someone that they will say damn near anything to avoid it. Well, I'm here to say that even though I feel that gods were invented to police people into doing their leaders' will before they had the technology to do so, and I feel that anyone who feels otherwise has been fooled into the most naive standpoint there is, I still put up a damn Christmas tree every year, and it's gonna be called a Christmas tree as long as I keep putting one up.

Oh, yea. Obama isn't a good leader. He's just good at being popular.

If I offended anyone with my views, suck it up, you pansy bastard.

my solution for this customer would be:

if its really going to come down to people getting offended by how they are greeted then everyone in country should have to wear a shirt or something on them that everyone can plainly see that states what religion they are...how the hell is anyone suppose to know what religion people are?

but like chris said its just another thing for people to bitch about

Political correctness is nothing the whole movement just shows that the American people are sheep. Political correctness is just mass politeness taken too far. There is NOTHING stoping you from saying Christmas tree, Merry Christmas, or, God bless America however there is nothing keeping me or anybody else who doesnt give two shits about Christanity from telling you to fuck off when you do. The only reason these Micky Mouse greatings and shit have taken hold is because everybody in this country is so afraid to offend anybody

I never follow any of that political correctness. There was a lady I worked with who would always correct me when I would say something politically incorrect. Like when we had a large group of kids we wanted to sit on the floor. I said, "Sit down Indian style". She proceeded to correct me saying, "It's criss cross apple sauce". I basically told her that I don't give a damn, I grew up saying "Indian style". And damn it, that's what I'm going to teach my kids! If they come home from school saying "We sat down criss cross apple sauce at school today daddy" I'm going to say, "It's called Indian style. Apple sauce has nothing to do with sitting on the floor with your legs crossed."

Anyway, back on the point of Obama calling it a "Holiday" tree, rather than a Christmas Tree. I think that just strengthens the point that he's not Christian, that he is most likely a Muslim. A true Christian would call it a Christmas tree, just like they would call it Christmas break, not Winter break.
