NEW mopar/rt side skirts can (but won't) be made!!!

Got a question on outside appearance modifications. Questions about body kits, exterior lighting, just anything thats a visual mod on the "exterior" of the car. Ask those questions here.

NEW mopar/rt side skirts can (but won't) be made!!!

Post by srtgtr34 » Mon Nov 16, 2009 3:00 pm

I sent an email to the company that reproduces the srt side skirts on ebay (Americancarbonfiber1) and asked them if their company would be able to reproduce these sought after pieces...

They responded today saying that they are more than willing to reproduce the skirts the only problem is that they need a set to make the cast.

Which is the reason why I'm posting this...

Is anyone out there willing to give up their side skirts for a short amount of time, to help the neon community???

If so, please pm me and I'll give you the companies E-mail and you can talk to them directly.

For anyone who doesn't know about him, these links are his products of the SRT skirts.

Fiberglass SRT Skirts- $165 shipped
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... K:MEWAX:IT

Carbon Fiber SRT Skirts - They did have these for sale a few days ago but I guess someone bought them already. They were $250 shipped. I'm pretty sure there will be another set going on sale soon as he is always producing more.

Some other items they have at a low price:

Carbon Fiber HVAC - $89 shipped
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/03-06-Do ... 27ad01c84f

Carbon Fiber Console Arm Rest - $69 plus shipping
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/03-06-Do ... 27acf4b329

They've also got CF wiper cowls, SRT crosshairs, and fog light surrounds too.

But yeah, this is a really good opportunity for you to get CF or fiberglass replicas of the R/T skirts! It'll probably be a lot cheaper than the SRT skirts too since there is only 4 pieces instead of 8!

Replicas FTL. What's wrong with rare parts? No one has any patience these days.

Replicas will always be replicas. The originals will still be worth more in the end.

I really don't think that these being not oem, would make them less superior. They are being cast off of original side skirts so they can't be noticeably different. side skirts are side skirts, its not like your going to be able to tell when they are painted that they are replicas.

If we can get a donor for this company, it will make alot of people happy including myself.

So ,someone take one for the team!

What are they offering for the donor? Would I get a free set? I've got an extra set of the originals laying around but it would have to be worth my time and the chance of them getting ruined in the prototyping process

You would have to ask them, I didn't really get into the details with them.

Most new age mold processes, don't damage the piece that being replicated. Even if the original was damaged, I don't see why they wouldn't send you a fresh new set of skirts.

Please drop them a message.

No one said they couldn't be made to look the same (that is the point of a replica, is it not), I was implying that it would decrease the value, and more importantly, the unique factor of the skirts. If everyone and their mom can buy them on ebay, then those of us who paid the big bucks for the real thing get screwed in the end. I had to search and search for them, just like everyone else. Having parts that arent easy to get brings a certain level of satisfaction. Doing something like this would take that away.

I understand that.

But they are repopping everything now. As long as people don't try to pass them off as OEM parts I don't have an issue with it. The OEM-ness is verified by the Mopar logo on these parts correct?

Yes sir.

It's the same story with all knock off parts. This one just hits closer to home for me.

This kind of stuff is killing our industry. Looking the other way has only made it worse.

You guys make it seem like these "replicas" will be trashy and poorly made. Although I have never seen any products that the company makes with my own eyes, I doubt that they make crap. Hell, there quality may even exceed mopars which would keep the value of the skirts relatively in check.

The truth is with every day passing these skirts are becoming increasingly harder to find. Finding a set brand new, will only happen once in a blue moon. I can see what you guys are saying with your posts, I don't see any thing wrong with these being remade..

It doesn't matter what they look like. They could look better for all I care. My point is based on principal.

What makes them nice is that not everyone has them. The fact that they are harder to get makes them what they are. Its not gonna kill people to look around for them like we all did.

Is it still an industry when they aren't being produced anymore?

Now imagine your skirts get damaged and now you are stuck.

My point exactly... I just wrote up this detailed post but of course for some odd reason Ie exited out on me... :aargh:

Would you feel the same way if a company started reproducing the mag parts??? I think that these being remade is in the interest of our community..

Firefox ftw

Only thing I dont like is that fact they will be fiberglass. Who cares if they are reproducing them, dodge discontinued them. Its not hurting anything, I'd rather pay more for a original set, but they cant be had.

I thought you said in your WTB that you aren't interested in fiberglass ones, but now you're rooting for this to happen so you can get a set?

Ive got two sets of R/T skirts. Id probably be willing, if I were to get, say, a set in CF for myself.. for my time and participation.

But, reminds me of that guy in Canada making CF parts. I managed to get some extra sunroof glass panels for him to use to make a CF replacement, and after offering to pay shipping each way, and for materials, to get one CF panel for myself and my original glass back... he stopped replying to my PMs and emails.

Makes me warry of sending parts, especially such rare parts, to someone.

And as far as rare parts... rare parts are teh awesomeness... I love my export R/T rear bumper. lol

^Wow, that really does suck man. I wouldn't trust anyone with my parts ever, so I don't blame anyone for not giving this ebay seller theirs.
