Honda vs neon

In the last 2 days I’ve seen 2 threads be closed because of this comparison. Personally I don’t see why, this is a public forum where people should be allowed to converse and argue over such subjects. It’s a car/ neon site! Anyway my question is, is there anywhere on this website we can have this discussion without being locked? Off topic? I personally love having debates about things like this and I’m not out to be malicious.

In most cases the threads turn into bashfests. That is why they get locked. Not because of discussion.

I love when a group of people have a logical discussion.

Most of the time it's your car sucks, Honda's are gay, etc, etc.

It's one of those things where several people are affected by only a few people's poor behavior. It's unfortunate that those of you who follow the rules have to suffer, but it's just the way things work. Just because it's in OT doesn't mean people can start flaming eachother and flipping out. Find another forum if you don't like it.

There is a difference between flaming someone and having them disagree. I see threads getting locked all the time for the latter 99% of the time.

Guy1: Hondas suck and are slow
Guy2: No they're not

The one I locked, because it was waay off the original topic, and it was not in off topic. It had just become a continuation of the first one that had been locked. The original one was only a temporary lock anyways.

Now you do have a topic specific thread. Just keep it civil....

I'd also like to add, there is also a difference between a disagreement and an argument. And a difference between being civil and respectful, and being rude and obnoxious. Just because someone doesn't directly flame someone else, doesn't mean they can say and do whatever they want. There is absolutely no reason why everyone can't get along and treat others respectfully. We understand that some people say/post/imply extremely stupid things that almost warrant a flame fest, but remember that those people are usually new and/or clueless. They still don't deserve to be torn to shreds for posting what, in their minds, makes sense and is reasonable. Everyone is different.

I'm puzzled as to why a thread about Neon vs. Honda would be on this site since this is a Neon site. Naturally, members would be pro-Neon, right? I don't get the point then.

I came to this site because of the leg-humpers, not because of Neons.

OP feels that Hondas get more credit than they deserve.

I totally forgot that a Neon with a cold air intake is the fastestest thing ever. Totally took my SRT. He spun past me in 5th and he still couldn't get traction. IDK what it is about the 2.0 and intakes that just turns them wild~

...I don't think that's what it means to be 'pro-neon'. Just because you like them doesn't mean you need to be buttsecks-crazy for them. When I had a Neon I didn't think I could blast people off the road, and even now that I have a better car, I still would call myself a Neon enthusiast. Your stereotype is boring.

He's not saying that being pro-neon is bad, he's saying it makes people instantly go anti-*insert brand here* for no reason. Some people (I'm not saying names) just claim to hate these other cars, but when an actual discussion shows up, there is little or no evidence to support their claim. It's just pure bias.

Meh, it's still a stereotype that applies to a good number. People on here have a hard time admitting defeat. If you told me my neon was a slow POS with mismatched colored panels and a slow ass ATX, i'd say OK. Tell that to a few others and it's butt hurt lockville.

And this all relates to "Hondas suck". Ummm...have you looked at your own car lately?

I enjoy calling Hondas pieces of shit because I don't own one, and I truly like my car better. Obviously there are nice Hondas out there with nice features and better gas mileage, reliability, etc. I do however genuinely hate the way hondas sound.

When someone like Teej posts a thread about Hondas, for example, it's out of respect for them. If someone likes Hondas, Toyotas, BMW's, whatever, they should feel free to post a thread in OT about them. Here's the thing though: those threads usually aren't posted wanting peoples negative opinions and feedback. Typically they're picture threads admiring certain cars for certain reasons, and often times the OP is inspired by one or more of the cars or trends. People think that just because someone posts a pic thread on a particular subject that that person wants to hear everyone's opinion on the subject. They forget that the thread was meant to be a PICTURE thread discussing the specific cars in them, not an A-Z rant thread about the subject. The OP is almost always simply looking to discuss these subjects with others who share interest in them. Getting involved in a subject that you don't agree with or have a hostile attitude towards is the exact wrong thing to do. It all comes down to having forum etiquette and experience. I've been on here awhile and know what (most) people are getting at when they post threads like that. Some people just don't understand I guess, and that's where we run into a problem. Hope that makes sense.

wow, another thread with Honda content??? i love my neon, yup its slower than many cars, yup its got a happy face and bubble eyes, and manual rear windows and, well i could go on, but i like it. and at the same time i like Honda's, they( some of them anyways) have a style that i like, i don't see anything wrong or being sacrilegious to the neon for liking other cars, many of you incorporate ideas from old school muscle cars, and that to me is a bigger stretch than using ideas from the Honda boys. i mean what does a neon have in common with a hemi cuda???? honestly??

as for posting Honda content on a neon site, why not?? i would hope that most of us are mature enough to look at another car and take it for what it is, if ideas can be gained then its a good thing, if not?? well how did that hurt you to look?? every body has an opinion and i respect that, so why not respect others opinions in return??

it is a sad thing that there is so many lines separating the car communities, people with Honda's rag on neon's, people with neon's rag on Honda's, it gets old, and mostly it is based on ignorance. so get over it and move on, or just don't comment.

In Forza 1, my friend built an SI to its max potential, something like 600+ hp w/ lesser torque, and I made an SRT4 at its max potential, something like 430 hp (remember this is in forza 1 lol) and I beat him. Just thought I'd throw this in, since its a neon vs Honda thread, lol.

I prefer most American vehicles to Asian. Unless its a ford. Fuck ford.

I don't care for import cars/trucks because I grew up around Mopar. I hate ford with a passion, but so does every ford owner

I give them shit, but its all in fun and I expect them to give me shit back.. But in the way i gave them shit, not them wanting to come over and kill my family because they got butthurt.

I absolutely love the K20a motors. An RSX type S would proabably be the only honda I'd own. A 200hp N/A 2.0 motor straight from the factory is where its at.

I really envy their ability to rev though. 9k+ that is just ridiculous.

I agree completely with your first paragraph, and understand the stereotype and the butt-hurt-ness...don't know where you were going with the next part though.

To bring this back around to the OP:
There's discussion/debate and then there is straight bashing. The threads that have been locked were prime examples of this. Although I agree that we should be able to have disagreements between eachother, since that shows diversity, I don't believe people should try purposefully to 'go for the throat' with their dislikings for a certain trend/style/idea. I also don't believe people should be purposefully 'stirring the pot', which has become more apparent as of late.

I tend to find that the best rule has always been "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all." Not to say that no one can show their disapproval for a certain thing, but to at least not shove their pure hated down someone's throat. This is just the Internet, guys. I know we need to take things with a grain of salt, but lets not force down the entire salt mine.

Yea.. All Honda suck and all Hondas are slow.

If you can honestly say you'd rather drive a grocery getter over the cars pictured above you need to have your head examined.

Wasn't pointing the finger at you specifically. OP, for example. I'd take a Civic SI or S2k over his Neon any day of the week. Yet, somehow, he finds the way to say all Hondas suck.

I must get one of those "cold air intakes" you speak off. It will make my neon fast! Wheel spin in 5th. Yummy.
