Post by hansken_yo » Wed Nov 18, 2009 8:23 pm

How does this compare to IE or Firefox? I use firefox so I'm not as keen to IE anymore.

I use Chrome. I love it! I won't go back to IE, and I gave Firefox a shot before I switched to Chrome. Obviously, I didn't stick with it.

Chrome is fast and light.

I'm on the computer 8 hours/day with my position in a web hosting company and use Chrome as my main browser.

However, I also use FireFox and to a lessor extent IE... primarily for support purposes so I can duplicate customer issues.

I use chrome all the time and I really like it. I was a huge fan of Opera and it prized me away from that.

I only use IE to use Windows Update. It doesn't work through Chrome.

I used Chrome when I was off at school last year. It was great, and I never had a problem with it. It had that 'incognito' feature that my lady friend said I used for teh pr0nz, but it was really so I could buy her gifts and she couldn't see the history.

I don't use it noa, but that's because I have reinstalled Vista twice.

I used it last year a few times, wasn't super impressed, and went back to my tried and true firefox. Another reason was it wasn't very secure. Granted I don't know about now, this was when it was just released. I'd NEVER use IE though.

I'm a big fan of IE, but I just downloaded Chrome and I'm starting to like it. Firefox just NEVER worked for me. The load time just to start it took longer than any other program.

The one thing I'm very impressed with Chrome about is the fact that while the browser is loading pictures on the forum, it doesn't jump around the page. That's a plus in my book since it's super annoying to be reading people's replies on a picture-heavy thread and all of a sudden I get bumped 10 posts down.

The only thing I don't like about it so far is the fact that the text doesn't look as smooth as IE's. Maybe that's just in the settings though.

How is IE good at all? :scratchhead:

Unless of course you like the exploits in it allowing for you to get sensitive info stolen. MS still stands behind their product in said times, and says they can't recommend you not use it because they are working on fixing the problem. hmmm. I'd just rather use a more secure browser that functions better.

I've never had any problems with IE. Sure, it can have it's slow points, but that's like any program that is on my computer. I think they've gone leaps and bounds from earlier versions, not only with the styling but with the ability to almost have everything you need when browsing right at your finger tips. Exploits? explain. I don't even have antivirus on my computer and have only ever had 1 virus in the 7 years I've owned this computer. It's not the browser's fault that people surf unsafe areas of the web. And there ARE features to protect you when you've gone to a malicious website. (ex. InPrivate and Malicious Site Blocker) IE can do everything that other browsers do. The only reason I like Chrome at the moment is because it displays videos slightly fast and, as I said before, the picture bumping issue.

It is the browsers responsibility to be able to DEAL with unsafe areas of the web though. Stupidity alone can't be used as a deterrent. Should cars not have airbags, crash bars, because it's not it's job to keep you safe if you get in an accident inadvertently? It's a stretch but my point is founded.

No, your right that it should at least TRY to protect you. But most cars don't purposefully veer out of an oncoming collision either, like you're suggesting a browser should basically do. The first link you provided is for the IE 8 Beta and the second link you provided is for IE 7. And honestly, sure their are exploits, but I wouldn't be surprised with a company that holds such a high market share in this industry. Put any other browser out there for as long as IE has, with the same user base, and they'd be hit just as hard if not harder.

I didn't do much digging. I know there were issues with the production version. Yeah, I don't think it was the current version, you're right. I'm just not willing to take the gamble. Any time my home computer ever had a virus it was using IE. I've been using Firefox since around 2005 and haven't had any issues since. I don't think it's a perfect program, but it does everything I expect it to do and has more safeguards. I'll have to respectfully agree to disagree about IE here

I use firefox. I have not been able to stand IE since I switched over to Firefox. With that said, I through IE into the equation for comparison sake. It seems that a lot of people switched from IE to Chrome, and some people from Firefox to Chrome. I have Nooooo issues with speed and Firefox, and actually was just curious more than anything. I haven't heard anything that is so wow-ing that I'm going to consider switching at this point.
