Ahoy!

Post by Jeepin' » Fri Nov 27, 2009 10:23 pm

Hey to everyone!

Names Patrick, I'm 22, originally from Boston, but living in Fort Myers Florida for now.

First off = the username. I know, no relation. Thats cause every vehicle I've owned has been a Jeep, 8 or 9 so far, up until a few months ago. I had to sell my Cherokee XJ, for something more road friendly for work. I've lifted all my Jeeps, I absolutely love em', my favorite vehicle of all time. However, I took a break from 4x4, rocks, mud and breaking things....

and a few months ago picked up a 2005 Dodge Neon SXT. I never really minded these cars, always thought they were good little runners. I happened to get a good deal on this one, so I couldn't pass it up. I've done some work to it since, don't worry, no rice I promise.

Outside of that, I've been a mechanic for about 3 years now, just toolin' around.

Im also a huge member on our local car forum, Fortmyersracing.Net, so I'm trying to do a good intro for you all. lol.

Anything else, just ask me I guess. Thanks for having me!

Well heres some shots of the Kneeon. Pardon the JDM angles, my friend was taking pictures...

As you can tell, a weekend of drunken stupidity with some friends resulted in my stock rims getting painted. Worst. Idea. Ever!

But its all good, I'm getting some 17" SRT rims for a steal next week, and I'm not touching them. IMO they just fill the wheel well better, and I, like the rest of America, am on a budget. Hence the $6 Home Depot front lip. That was the result of a "you won't!" bet. I won. :tardbang:

Image

Carpooling out to a standing mile event one day, one of the vehicles we took was my car. As you can tell, I don't take much seriously. If you can't have a laugh about much, it wasn't worth your time.

Image

My last, and without a doubt, most favorite Jeep. 97, 5" lift, 31" Goodyear MT/Rs, fabbed up a roof rack, 10,000lbs winch, door hinge chop, all sorts of goodies.

:Cry1:

I cracked the t-case and was gonna replace it with an Atlas II twinstick, but plans fell through, couldn't afford to keep it.

BUT, I'm really diggin the Neon.

Its a 5spd, cause I swore up and down that if I got a car, I'd get one at least fun to drive. Miss my old Wrangler with stick.

So far - Cold air intake, 2.5" piping from the downpipe back with some no name muffler, doesn't sound bad, been told multiple times it sounds like a WRX, oddly enough.. :quotes:

Image

I swapped in some SRT springs for kicks and gigglys, since I got them for free. Ripped off all the dopey side molding, 15% tint, short throw shifter, solid motor mounts, and stripped it of sound deading. I'm sure theres other junk I'm forgetting.

Like I mentioned, I caught a lucky break and scored some SRT rims for el cheap-o, and along with picking up a SXT wing (since mine was the ONLY godamn one to come out of the factory without one) this week, I should pretty much be done with it. Oh, maybe some eBay strut tower bars, and maybe a Jet chip further down the line.

In the meantime I need to get back to installing a vaccum guage I picked up on sale today. Don't need one in the slightest, but for $9, eff it. I know its not fast stock by any means, and I'm honestly not trying to be. I just want a fun, comfortable, good looking cruiser. Then when the motor blows...

swap it. But I'm not doing 2.4T, no no no, thats over played...

Thanks for having me again.

Nooo!!! No Jet-chip!

Seriously, those are no dice.

Also, keep the SRT wheels silver, and get a moderate drop. Car looks good so far. I hope you're kidding w/ that SXT spoiler!

Thank you and thank you.

Why such a stance on the Jet chip? I'm interested. If its conman knowledge not to get it then fill me in!

And in regards to the spoiler - I know, its about as functional as microphone in the hands of Ashley Simpson.

Trouble is, I've seen so many SXTs with them, and everyone and their grandmother has a skittle down here, to me, mine looks almost naked without something there.

I prefer the factory one over the SRT wing, makes it look like a damn shopping cart.

Hey, welcome to 2gn!

Another New Englander, huh? I lived in RI for 3 years - made many a trip up to Bean Town. Gotta admit, although not really that much of a baseball fan, I prefer the Sox over all others

Like what you've done with the Neon, so far - the stock painted wheels actually don't look half bad, really - it's good you left the lip silver.

I also have a Jeep XJ - '01 Limited. It's the wife's DD, so I'm not allowed to mod it (ok, I put a K&N drop in filter and larger tires, but that doesn't really count, does it?). I just do the regular maintenance on it to keep it running well.

If you search for Jet on here, you'll find the results I'm hinting at. I also think it's stickied at the top of a section...

Yeah, you're better off throwing a 3 foot wing on your car than spending cash on the Jet chip. It's more useful.

(everybody needs a park bench at 80 mph, didn't you know this?)

Welcome! I actually kind of like the stock wheels painted like that... and, I think everybody here without an SRT-4 has put the SRT wheels on their car at some point, lol.

Thanks for yet again another compliment, but they really do look like ass IMO. I don't think I emphasized how much drunken debenturey was accruing during all this. Reallly wish I hadn't.

First off, welcome to the boards!! Second, I thinks your stock painted rims look purrty tight! But everbody has different taste so do your thing. And third, I, IMO, think the SXT rear wing is hella sporty. I cant get with the SRT wing. Kinda looks rice to me. If I ever had an SRT, removing the wing would be my first mod!!

Hey Patrick, Welcome to 2GN. This is a great place to show off, vent, get help, brag, whatever. Props to you for getting rid of those gawdy side moldings. Took mine off a few months ago and then wondered why it took me so dam long to do it. Also I agree, if your gonna get a spoiler do the SXT NOT that shopping cart handle SRT-4 version. I may wanna ask you since you are a mechanic a question or 3 or 4 sometime. But in the meantime welcome to 2GN. You'll find it very welcoming here. Just a quick heads-up for ya. the more anyone on here gives you crap, the more they like you as a fellow 2GN'er
