OBX Long tube header question
OBX Long tube header question
Been searching all night for a staight answer....
The OBX Long tube seems like a decent header, but I had a few questions.
The auctions on ebay say it is a direct bolt on without modification. Does this mean I can install it myself, or will the short downpipe piece have to be welded (I can't tell from the pics)?
Also, the auctions say it will fit all SOHC including R/T and ACR. Does this mean the ports will match up fine? Anyone have this header on their Magnum motor?
Thanks for any help.
Jonathan

Buddy of mine has it on his 01 R/T. He had to extend the wires for the downstream 02 sensor since the cat moved back but other than that it was a direct fit. You don't NEED to weld the shorter piece as it can be clamped, but it'd be cleaner if you got it welded in place. He also uses a flex pipe...

Thanks for the response, guys.
Oh yeah, and does anyone have any pictures of the header installed on their car? I can't seem to find one anywhere. I wanted to see the clearance at the coolant resevoir and firewall.
That is what I was wondering, I figured the cat would have to be relocated...but say I didn't put the cat back on-would the header mate to the mid section fine? I don't like the idea of running without a cat, but I don't have to get emissions done in my area and plus I don't drive the car as much since I have an Integra for a daily. So this might be an option. I am mainly wondering because I don't trust any mechanics in my area and really like to do everything myself. But I can't do that type of welding.neonslg09 wrote:I have the OBX LTH. It's not a direct bolt on as you have to relocate your car. I'd recommend getting the magnaflow hi-flo catalyic convertor. Mine is installed on a non-mag head. But it will work on a magnum head no problem.

It is possible, but the header outlet is 2.5", and the stock mid piping is 2.25". It'll take some creative cutting and use of adapters but it is possible. Sorry I don't have any pics of it in stalled, but it gave me more clearance than my expensive Fast Fab V2 header did.
I'd look into getting a 2.5" exhaust kit, and mating the header to that, and getting a flex section welded in.

So many neons so little time.

I'll take some pictures tomorrow if nobody else does by then. There is a good amount of clearance all around the header from what I can tell. I think the oem manifold is a bit more bulky coming off the back of the engine and may actually come closer than the OBX.acr2002 wrote: Oh yeah, and does anyone have any pictures of the header installed on their car? I believe you can still use some of the oem heat shielding, I'm pretty sure the upper heat shield will still fit and reduce the heat around the coolant bottle. I'm fixing an exhaust leak tomorrow so I'll check it out for you.
Already have a Thermal Rear section. I can't find anywhere that makes a 2.5" midpipe that is a bolt on. I might try a different exhaust shop that I found today. Only problem is most places in GA won't work on cars without a cat installed.V.95srt wrote:just do a full exhaust and for get the cat
But it's good to hear the header clears everything. I might just get one and install it and see if this exhaust shop can weld it to my midpipe.
Thanks again guys.

I snapped some pics today for ya

Ignore the missing upper bolt, I'm fixing that in the morning.

You could put some heat shielding on the bottom of the coolant bottle just to be on the safe side, but I think it's far enough away.
The shielding around the midpipe can get in the way if you go with a high flow cat, but you can just cut or bend it out of the way pretty easily.

It really is a nice header, the welds are nice an clean. I bought mine used from a member so it is over a year old and still looks that good.acr2002 wrote:wow, that is nice....
I think you just made my mind up for me. Thanks a ton for the pics!
The zip-tied cables is a good idea as well, just so you know you'll never have a problem. Might want to wrap heat resistant material around the zip-tie though, they like to melt under extreme heat.
Metal, Sir. I use them to hold the header wrap on my XS650 in place. I think...$6 for 4 at Advance Auto.Donkeypuncher wrote:

Fix it 'till it's broken. Then upgrade.
Donkeypuncher: could i bother you for a shot of the under car clearance on that header? a pic from the side of the car looking under would be greatly appreciated. i need to see how it fits in the exhaust tunnel or if it hangs below like the kirk one i had did. much appreciated sir.

Go ahead and buy one, you won't regret it!! I'm the member Donkeypuncher got the OBX + piping from. It went through a New England winter in my DD and sat in my driveway for 5 months when I started my partout before it wound up in his car. So, you can see it's good quality + one hell of a nice piece for the price; and you don't have to worry about it hanging low since the collector tucks up nicely in the tunnel. If you want any other pics of the OBX installed, I should still have them in my garage section here. I went from a Kirk LTH to the OBX and never regretted it.

Here you go, you see how nicely tucked it sits in the tunnel. That's a Magnaflow 2.5" cat and 2.5" piping all the way back.:2k2rt wrote:I would deffinatley appreciate the pictures. thanks.

The header and collector are tucked up in there so close you would hit the pinch welds way before hitting the header. The cat hangs down the furthest so I wouldn't worry about it.
The rusted bolt is the end of the header, it's tucked in so much it's hard to see.

You're very welcome!!!Donkeypuncher wrote:And yes, I got mine from asanti and I'm very pleased with it (thanks by the way).
My muffler guy didn't tighten the top bolt on the collector, so it's leaking like a bitch. Now I gotta pull the header off, drop the exhaust and tighten it up properly so it doesn't leak.
