Driver's door window trim. Help!

Post by Passt » Fri Dec 11, 2009 10:15 pm

Hey all,

I asked about this stuff about 6 months ago, and forgot about it for a while. Over the winter I'm trying to get the car back to 100% on the exterior. I need help. This piece on my car is bent, and I need a new one.

It's the driver's door plastic window trim. Towards the back where it meets the rear passenger door, it's bent upward. The dealership will only sell the entire car's trim as a set, I think it was around $160-$200. All I need is that driver's door piece. If anyone would be willing to send me that piece I'll gladly pay a price and shipping of course. I can't find any in decent condition around here. Help me out!

Pretty sure The dealership thing is bullshit because I bought one for my drivers door when it was getting fixed. IIRC it was like 45 bucks.

5008711AF $58.10
Front door - Door and components - Belt w strip
Belt w strip Left 2005

This should be what you want. Since Photobucket is being ghey, I will try to post a pic of the exploded trim view later just to verify the reference number.

Should be item #9

Thanks for the reference. I don't know what I am thinking of. Perhaps when I tried to describe it to the guy at the dealer, he didn't know what I was talking about and quoted me on the wrong part. Either way, if anyone has an extra one of these around, or knows someone who is parting out a wrecked car or something, I'd be greatly appreciative if you'd send it my way lol.

Maybe the Pillar Trim? Idk. I don't think I have any laying around, almost positive I don't. But I'll check after work tonight.

That's called a belt molding Nate. I have two extras (one's a front one's a rear) I'm just not sure what side they're from. However...keep this in mind: When you buy a used one it's 100% harder to keep the end of it stuck down like that. They attach with double sided tape and clips into the door itself. I'm pretty sure my front one is a driver's front I'll have to check it out.

For the price IMO you're better off buying new then you're guaranteed it will stick down properly.

Hmmmmmmm, I'll take that into consideration. I HATE having small things wrong like this. Between that and my fucking headlight gaskets I'm ripping my hair out.

It's just food for thought. They're tough to get to stick, especially when they're used. I went through that with mine. After I bought a new one it did the exact same thing, so I went through the Mopar parts warranty to get another one. For the small price they are you're better off :)

Are they bent like that to begin with? The reason I can't get mine to stay down is because the guy who painted my car bent it when he was removing it.

No they're not, they're perfectly straight, but once they're bent you can't bend them back.

Yeah, thats a better pic, PN# is the same. The problem with only ordering one part, is the shipping makes it just as cheap to get it local.

Actually they only charged like $10 for Smileytyskates to ship a lip kit. And those boxes are rather large. But if your dealership marks everything up then it may be cheaper.

I ordered this on January 16th 2010. It still hasn't arrived. I checked the order status and it says "processing". They say the part is discontinued / Chrysler has altered it from it's original, and they don't know when they will be available. What the fuck.

Does anyone have alternative recommendations as to where I can pick this up? I'd love to have this fixed by spring.

Ouch. It has not been discontinued, but the vendor doesn't have any available. Find out if they have your order on Special Handling or not Nate. If it's on a stock or daily order, it won't be released until the special handling orders are filled.

How do I find that out bud? And if it's not on special handling, is there a way to change that?

You will have to call the dealer and ask them what kind of order it is on. If they did not special handle it, they need to change the order to SH. It will put you at the bottom of the SH list though.

And all this is pending if they will ever supply the part!

Nate, I would just call this dealer and fork over the shipping charge rather than wait for the special order to be filled or put a used part on your beautiful car. I have ordered from dealers before (my 1GN cup holder foam pads being the most recent "mod" I have bought like this) and have had good luck.

I think the one I have is the passenger front. Nate I would pull it off.....heat it up and put new double sided tape on it, see if that helps.

Haha yea, I agree, the black is better. Chrome would be too flashy imo since nothing else on the car is chrome.
