show off your CAI

Post by Franklinnn » Sat Dec 12, 2009 11:18 am

im shopping for a CAI, and on ebay am seeing a lot of of different things, and curious is there any good ebay routes, or do i need to speed 10x as much on a name brand?

so to give me an idea, feel free to post your intake system, how much it costs, how you like it, and how it sounds.

also if anyone could link me to a good ebay, or help for a cheap-ish intake, and hopfully i can convice a sister to get it for me for Xmas!

My objectives are basically sound, and looks and preferably cheap, i dont care about HP, as long as they dont go down, but if they go up by 1-3 and keep the same gas millage i'de be happy.

I got an ebay one for about $30 a while ago. Said it was a Bomz, but who knows. It gives it a nice purr throughout the entire RPM range with a little more throttle response. Came with some cheap-ass blue filter, but it's doing a pretty good job.

ICEMAN intake. Best CAI out there as far as I'm concerned. Sounds and performs excellently, and looks stealth. Good luck finding one though, they've been discontinued for years. Modern Performance has a few for sale right now but they're expensive and selling fast.

I have a 2005 CE, do i want the ones where the filter goes where the airbox is, or one that goes down into the bumper? and how big of a difference goes it make?

and how difficult is installation on both?

so something like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/00-01-02 ... 695wt_1165

or this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/00-05-Do ... 2496wt_971

and also with each of them, how do you make sure they are secure and dont rub, make noise and fit snug and secure?

First one looks exactly like mine. Second one is a waste of money because you might as well just tighten a filter right to your TB, it will do just as good (crappy) of a job.

If you put it in right, you won't have any rubbing problems.

I have a different intake manifold. My intake is my filter on the end of it. Old pic, there's a K&N on it now.

If all you want is looks, just put a "colorful" filter on your throttle body. Any CAI going down you risk the possibility of hydrolock "IF YOUR NOT CAREFULL".

I still think that's just if you let it sit in a foot-high puddle or something ridiculous, at that point you should expect some sort of engine damage.

are by pass valves any good?

and how big of a difference would there be between the fender intake and the one that sits right off the throttle body?

Yes, which is why i asked about bypass valves, and also how does this one look compared to the red/blue ones, or is it just color?

When I took my CAI[AEM] out, and put the filter on the throttle body to prep for the A.M.M. install, I noticed I got better accerlation, but not the same "upmhh"

But with the A.M.M., it didn't matter lol, I'm sure it would be awesome with a CAI, but it would have to be a custom pipe.

Basically your setup is similiar to mine, except yours has more plenum volume, and I would hope, larger runner diameter. But being rid of the small plenum inlet FTW!
