Oil Filter Leak

Post by shinta86 » Tue Dec 15, 2009 3:08 pm

The other day I did an oil change. I drove it for a day and a half no problem then I left work and had an oil light so I pulled over and I had an oil leak. So I replaced the filter and it worked fine for two days and when I went to work this morning same problem. What is causing this? I do have the big oil filter kit.
Car is 04 SRT4.

Couple of basic questions:
1) did you clean/wipe clear the filter connector?
2) did you wet the rubber seal with a little bit of oil before connecting it?
3) did you over tighten? if you damaged the seal it won't hold.

Oil pressure sensor goes bad, so I have heard, might look into that. I mean it has to be that. If your oil light came on when you are driving your oil pressure is VERY low and well your engine would stop working. How many miles are on it?

I didn't wipe it off but I did wet the seal and didn't over tighten.

whipe it an try it again. As myneonsayshi said, i think its below 10psi or something insane that the light comes on, so id agree that there might be something up with the sensor

No there is oil leaking. And I did replace the oil pressure sensor a few months ago. You can hear it bubbling when car is on.

The oil could have made a crust where it seals between the filter and the engine. Clean and inspect it to see if there's any residue.

Well I did the big oil filter kit and the first filter was fine for 3300 miles then I changed with the same model and it lasted for a day or two.

...and the old filter gasket was not on there? (happens)

What is bubbling, the oil?

You went the "big filter" route...are you using the correct filter?

The gasket was on the new filters but idk if the old one was stuck to the car. Well it sounds like bubbling but the oil is squirting out due to pressure when the car runs. And I am using the correct filter. I had the same filter on it when I originally did the big filter kit. Which I had no problems with till i did the first oil change the other day.

Check for the old gasket then. At this point providing everything you say is correct, that's about the only way I can think of oil squirting out of the filter base.
