Powdercoated Wheels...finally (some new pics)

Post by darthroush » Sat Dec 26, 2009 2:38 am

So, after all of that waiting and finally finding center caps...the price essentially tripled to have them powdercoated since they changed their pricing for aluminum wheels...and then the center caps didn't get powdercoated after all of that. I would have taken them in months ago had I known that. :banghead: They got done in gloss black, not flat like I had originally wanted. I think the gloss looks pretty good though, actually. I got black spline drive lug nuts for free though. I paid for regular, non-locking chrome ones. They look much better than steelies, lol.

EDIT: New pics with some actual light. Had to mess around with my new camera I got for Christmas. First time I've been able to use it.

Anyways, onto the pictures I snapped real quick. Nothing fancy:

Looks really good man, I like the car, just get it a bit lower and it'll look tits. Maybe paint the chrome trim pieces around the front grille area black too, so it'll match up some.

Looks great. Now grab some lowering springs and it'll look 1,000 times better!

+1 on painting the chrome grill pieces black.

I agree man. It's a work in progress as I still have two car payments, etc. It's not easy to drop hundreds of dollars into it at a time. My to-do list still includes painting the chrome trim pieces on the grill black along with the trim pieces in the headlights...still have those damn gauges to install too...

I found a set of R/T struts with Tien springs a while back for like $125, but didn't have the money. Unless I stumble across something like that again, I'm not lowering it until I actually need new struts. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." Besides, where I live, the height it is at now is pushing it sometimes.

I do want to get a lip kit as well. On my to-find list.

Yes, there is a Cobalt SS in the background, lol. I'm going to be prepping the interior and exterior here soon before it is put up for sale.

Thanks for all of the comments guys and gals!
*Will be getting to those steelies shortly Adam*

I only have to pay $40 a piece for aluminum rims.

Mine were about $74 each (any aluminum wheel, any size is this price without any "hookups"). They were originally going to be $25 each. Most PC shops here charge about $80-$100 per wheel. I'd imagine with a "hookup," my price would have been about the same as yours.

You guys don't read the posts do you...

Adionik - No SRT swap for me. I've always thought about getting one, but couldn't afford the payment and insurance of that along with my current "toy" car.

Ofcourse not, and not at 2:30am

Besides, why read when you got pictures to look at

and to be fair.. there was nothing in the original post talking about lowering :D

You should take the side door moldings off too :)

The side moldings are one thing I probably won't do (at least in the near future) simply because they don't really bother me, so I don't want to spend all of that time removing them; most likely running into problems in the process such as adhesive not wanting to come off.

Its really not that bad, i did mine outside when it was snowing a few years back

But your car would look so much better without the sidemoldings. Every neon should have their side molding removed IMO

The wheels came out to under $300 for full prep (they needed a lot of that (Adam can vouch for that, lol), but I'm sure it took them much less time than it would have taken myself) and powdercoat and shipping there and back. I didn't actually have to pay any shipping, but there was a possible charge of $10 per wheel. Had I taken them in before they changed their policy on aluminum wheels, it would have been around $110 for the entire set. Either way, having it done through the tire shop, I'm sure that if I have any problems, they should take care of it.

I'll keep the side moldings in mind just in case I happen to have a free day and actually have nothing else to do on that day  Today's project, for the car, was cleaning the interior since I haven't been able to do that in about a month or two. God it looks so nice now! Smells good too!

It didn't bother me before either, until I took them off. They look more natural/ sleek without side moldings imo.
