rough ride

My car rides rough when going over bumps, I noticed on train tracks it feels as if I lose total control of the steering wheel because of the jerking of the wheel and this is at low speeds. Should I be looking at replacing struts and springs or just the struts? Any other important components need to be replaced when doing a strut replacement?

Bushings ever been replaced? Most importantly the LCA bushings?

How bout tie-rod ends, because they are known to go bad.

Personally I would replace the springs, or the new struts won't last as long. Found this out on my mom's '88 Le Baron years ago. They were shot after about 20,000 miles.

Some ppl claim springs never wear out. Explain to me why valve springs get weak and need replaced then. They are coil springs too. Eibach even says the million mile warranty is no good if the vehicle is driven consistently on rough roads.

Anything near 100,000 miles, I would replace the springs.

This could be the biggest reason the steering wheel is jerking. If there is slack in those parts, it gives the suspension some room to slap aganst the steering gear. If you have 136,000 on original parts, I would almost bet the LCA's are shot. The tie rods have got to be feeling their age too.

I'm going to say something along the lines of tie-rod ends too. That jerking went away when I replaced them. The new LCA bushings and ball joints helped to I'm sure.

Theirs no play in the wheel. I think its bad struts or something.

I have a 2000 neon and possible coming across a set of used SRT struts. What are some good springs to put on to lower the front and rear no more than 2"

I recommend Megan Racing i'm running which are pretty much like the stock springs. Lower the car about 2.0". You can go with eibach pro which is more expensive.
