Time for an external HD

Post by racer12306 » Mon Jan 04, 2010 2:14 pm

I'm looking at external HDs for my pictures since every shot I take is a minimum of 3.5MB each and a RAW shot is upwards of 15MB or more.

What do you think of Fantom or Samsung hard drives?

I'm looking to get a 1TB or 1.5TB external for all the pics I'm gonna have. 1TB = $100, 1.5TB = $130.

The Samsung Story has 90+ reviews and is rated at 5 eggs and the Fantoms have > 250 reviews and are rated at 4 eggs. Sounds good to me, but this is going to be the only place for my pics. I hope to have more than the computers HD (160GB) can handle soon enough.

I need to check on Carbonite's plans to see if they have updated to allow external drives. If not I might just have to build a computer with a 1TB or 1.5TB drive.

Ive got a 1T Fantom drive. Running it on SATA (with adapter in an expansion slot, UV cables to MOBO, and SATA cable to the drive itself sitting next to my box.

Ive had no trouble with it. Little slow when using USB, but since Ive got to SATA, it works like an internal drive (and is recognized as such in utilities)

I bought a 1 TB HP personal drive. Not sure what's inside it, but it works fine. I've had a number of long lasting samsung drives.
