Deciding on some wheels
Deciding on some wheels
I have a set of 235/55R17 on 17x7.5s. I'm trying to decide if I should use the wheels or just sell the package. Right now I do not know the offset of the wheels. Tirerack recommends 205/40 for a 17 inch wheel. It is a 2002 SXT. This all started with offering to replace my sisters's wheels/tires on her stratus. They cannot afford it. One option is giving them my stock wheels and tires, although the tires might be a little small.
Any recommendations on a setup I could go with using the 17" wheels? The entire suspension is stock right now and I cannot do a lot of modification to make this fit.
Thanks!

215/40/17 is actually closer to the OEM size than 205/40/17 is.
The offset will play a big factor in this.

Around here I'm seeing that the SRT-4 struts will give the needed clearance. The vehicle has 127K miles on it with the stock struts. I'm not against changing them and going to SRT ones when I do it. I have a truck so I can put the vehicle up on stands for a month or so. Depends on if my brother-in-law wants to use my stock wheels and tires on their Stratus.Danteneon wrote:With that size tire on those wheels, you will rub against the strut perch. The tire is just too tall to clear the struts you have.
Tire Rack lists that size since it will clear the struts with no problem.

If you can do the SRT struts then that will help. The stock size tire for the SRT is 205/50/17 which is 27.1" tall. The 235/55/17 is also 27.1" tall, so you are good there.
The only other issue would be offset like Frank said. On the back side of the wheel there should be a stamp that lists the size and offset.

If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...

Math is a smidge off...Danteneon wrote:If you can do the SRT struts then that will help. The stock size tire for the SRT is 205/50/17 which is 27.1" tall. The 235/55/17 is also 27.1" tall, so you are good there.

205/50/17 = 25.1"
I doubt 235/55/17 would even fit with SRT struts.

Ok, so from what I'm seeing around I need 40mm offset to use these. I'm guessing since it is 56mm I'm going to need SRT-4 struts and knuckles? I've seen something about using these also. http://www.turboneonstore.com/customer/ ... ductid=341
Anybody know for sure?

Whoa! I did quite the mismeasurement. It stemmed from trying to confirm the wheels are +56mm offset and being too focused on that. I started to think I was off and went to clean and re-measure. At this point I noticed a "40" stamped on the mounting surface. Some more google searching listed a few stores that actually listed "+40" instead of just "high". So it seems the offset would fall within what is ok for a Neon. The 235/55s are just too tall. Putting them on my girlfriend's forester for now.Danteneon wrote:Hmmm. The 56 offset wouldn't be good for any FWD Chrysler platform that I can think of. You would need a pretty serious spacer to make those work.
