2.0 to 2.4 conversison

Post by orangeneon05 » Wed Jan 06, 2010 9:47 pm

i was wondering if there is a way that i can get a 2.4 SRT motor long block to interchange with the 2.0 long block and keep everything the way it is. or would it be easier to find a 2.4 srt motor and swap it in.

im thinking no turbo or inter cooler for now just the motor and intake manifold and headers.

ill add the turbo and other things after it proves reliability.

The main thing to know is that the SRT 2.4 is turbo, which means low compression. When you remove the turbo from the equation I would doubt that it would make as much power as your stock engine.

On top of the fact that there is all kinda of things that would need to be changed anyway. You would be better off just doing the swap.

that is what i figured i straight up swap would be easier to do and on the wallet. hahah i sort of got somewhere with the automatic turbo post but i dont know if every one realizes im thinking of putting a turbo on a 2.0L and just adding some boost to the smaller motor that im guessing since the 2.4 is low compression the 2.0 is higher compression. am i right?

so would it be a dumb idea to turbo the 2.0? if not dumb what would be the boost zone to run it at i know i have read on the other topics that some 2.4s are running 25+ boost

It's not dumb to boost the 2.0. Several members here have done it. Look at the ASP kit for sale on this very forum. If you wish to go that route, there will be more work on your part needed as far as tuning goes. One advantage of the SRT swap is that it is (for the most part) plug and play if you have a complete donor.

ok if i search ASP kit will it pop up with the thread i want and with all of this compression and things thrown around would that make the 2.0 faster then the 2.4 but also make the 2.0 motor more susceptible to explosions/meltdowns?

aww your too kind thanks for the info btw.

and would a SRXT-4 2.0L be faster then an SRT-4 2.4L considering that the SRXT-4 is a high compression?

and yes a made up SRXT-4 i dont feel smart about it but turboed is not a word

You may want to do some research into what makes a turbo car fast. But to answer your question, no, the 2.0 will not be faster because of higher compression. A turbo (or any type of forced induction) engine should have lower compression due to the nature of forced induction (hence the name). A N/A engine will benefit from higher compression (to a point) since it doesn't have the same cylinder pressure that a forced induction engine does.

Mind you, that is a very general breakdown. There are some higher compression turbo cars out there, but if you want to run high boost lower compression will be needed.
