need oppinions, reviews, etc

Post by NEON PARABOLA » Thu Jan 07, 2010 8:44 pm

The time has come, and I will be buying new rims/summer tires soon. My sxt is stock as far as suspension goes, and I am a "spirited" driver, as so many websites put it..... anyways, here is my shopping list, any comments, suggestions etc are welcomed.

The tires:

uppon reading the reviews on these tires, i was impressed. But I was wondering if anyone here has them, or knows more about them. I'm having them mounted on these:

the rims:

now, I know I could go larger, like 18", but I dont want rubber band tires. am I gonna have any issues with clearance?

if anybody has any info,or whatever, please feel free to post.....

well ive never tried those tires nor heard anything about them.

but i will say something about these Hankooks shown in link.. research them..i had them on my other set of rims and they were awesome..gripped nicely, worked nicely in rain weather too, didnt make any road noise..they are a great tire. im running them again on my new set of rims for summer ( and they are cheaper than those ones u are looking at. so ull save some money...but its up to you for what you decide) . o and those rims would look bad ass.

Anything 40 series is under is a rubberband. I like the rims, but have not heard any reviews on the tires. Look into the falken ziex tires. I have the 512s and love them.

The S Drives are great tires. A friend of mine had them and they stuck really well. I've always been a Yoko fan; they make solid tires.

In order to run a 17" or larger wheel you are going to have rubber bands, period.

A 215/40 tire like he posted will have a sidewall height of 3.4"

A 205/45 tire will have a sidewall height of 3.6"

So it's hardly a difference.

If you are worried about ride quality, get at least a 50 or higher series tire.

QFT!!
You need to lower your car. Get those wheels in 16s so you can run a sidewall and still have a wider contact patch.

how do my rims ride? idk...never rode on my rims before lol

in all seriousness though, the tires arent bad i guess, i regret getting this size everyday which is why im getting new tires for them here soon...they are 205/40/17s i will be getting 225/45/17

and thanks for the compliment on the rims, me and sidepipe87 painted the purple lip on them and it was very tedious

I will probably never lower my car, it's a daily driver, and a winter driver, I already bust my bumper to hell on the snow every winter....

anyways,
here is a concept pic of what it should look like with them on....

I daily drive in winter on coilovers dropped about 3.5 inches on 205/50/16 summer tires, solid rear control arms and stiff ass bushings and sway bars. You will live man and look better. Aftermarket wheels at stock height look silly.

Win. I daily drive mine all winter. About the same drop, same size tires, suspension mods. It's stiff, but not enough for me to wanna complain about. Lowering can be done, and IMO, SHOULD be done for any sort of aftermarket wheels.

Yes, there would be between a 205/40 and a 215/45. I didn't do those sizes in the math.

215/40 = 3.4"
205/45 = 3.6"
205/40 = 3.2"
215/45 = 3.8"

I couldn't remember exactly if 215/45/17 fit so I didn't include it.
