Tokico Blues vs Stock R/T

Post by Adam K. » Thu Jan 14, 2010 9:03 am

Living in New York and driving on Dynamic Suspension struts is getting really annoying. The other day I hit a large pothole and thru both belts. Even at 16 clicks away from full hard they are really to firm for the streets of NY.

So I’m looking at replacing them with something a little less firm. My current setup is Dynamic Suspension, and Stock SRT-4 springs.

I have 3 choices.

Tokico Blues

Stock R/T

Stock SRT-4

All are about the same price. My current tire setup is 225-45-17 on 17x7 wheels with 35mm offset. They clear the perches so I’m not worried about fitment of wheels on any of the struts. I like the stance it has now and know going with an SRT-4 strut the car will be higher. I just want to get some opinions or other suggestions.

Thanks.

I have a set of Blues on my '00 and I enjoy them. They aren't too ridiculous at all, of course a lot has to do with the spring you pair them with (I run Sportlines). But I have been pleased with them.

Get the Blues, they're the same as an SRT strut....just blue.

Really? Don't the SRTs sit a little higher?

Yeah the srt sits a little higher, but that's only due to the spring perch being set higher on the actually strut body, otherwise there is no difference on the inside of the actual strut.

Have you considered Koni inserts? I have them, and on full soft, they dont feel much different than stock struts. While full stiff is quite a difference, lol.

This is true.

Best $700 and full day of work I ever spent on the car though.

^^ Thats a helluva deal right there. Considering the price of the inserts and the work to install them.

Koni's are not an option.

I guess after driving a mazdaspeed 6 for 3 years I got a little spoiled. The car handled great but was not harsh at all. I replace it with a CX-7 and the neon is now the fast car. Kind of hard to go fast when every bump you hit scares you.
