whats the difference in the auto trannys

i have a 2000 neon and the tranny just went out in it but i can get a good tranny with only 25k on it but its out of an 2003 neon
whats the difference the two
isnt the 03 a four speed and the 00 to 02 a three speed
not sure and need you help ?

The 4 speed is electronically controlled. So you would need to deal with that, PITA.

Yes....

2000-2001 = 3 speed hydraulic auto
2002-2005 = 4 speed electronic auto

I don't think I've seen an 02 with a 3 speed but apparently they do exist.

You would be surprised how little power they need, that's why they were used in a lot of cases.
