Sorry for the dumb post but...2001 RT Radio problem

Post by Powertool » Fri Jan 22, 2010 3:11 pm

Hi all,

My girlfriend has just got a 2001 RT, and after searching the forum I cant find an answer to our little problem.

The stock radio has been locked out showing the message "WAIT" we spoke to a Chrysler dealer who said we need to leave the stereo on for 2 hours so it can unlock itself, and allow us to enter the code.

We did this but it didn't work :(

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers
Dave & Linda :banghead:

That radio doesn't use any kind of security code. The wait message is more than likely because it's trying to set the CD into a ready possition (if the radio has a CD player).

Sounds like it needs to be repaired.
If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...

Just found a really bad jpeg of the uk owners manual that mentions the lock out mode.

Unfortunatly the paragraph we need is too blurred to read lol.

any UK owners with the manual might be abkle to help us. It appears we have different stereos to the US 2001 RT's.

Interesting. That would be news to me. If you do find out the info let us know.

*Edit*

This is all I could find on the web about it...

Doesn't help much though :(

a lot of cars in the european market have radios with security codes. my jag was an us-spec and did not require a code however my friend's import version did.

UK and EU radios are different than US ones (I don't know what bands are on radios there but I don't think that they have AM and FM like we have here).

american and european radios have FM and AM but in europe you have one problem with american radios: they only count uneven numbers behind the dot (100.1, 100.3, .5, .7, .9 etc) but here in europe we also use even decimal places.
so here in Berlin i can only receive like 10% of the radio stations.

but in the states you will have no problems with european radios!

oh but - if you buy a DVD radio you should take care that it is for the states in NTSC system.
Europe uses PAL.
Newer players have mostly both system - but check that!

Stock Radio now fixed :)

Post by Powertool » Mon Jan 25, 2010 2:07 pm

Hell Yeah its fixed now :)

Just decided to try and disconnect the battery for a little while then reconnect it.

Then we left the car for a while, tattooed some people and forgot about it.

When I went to start the engine at home time the stereo surprisingly asked for the code. Punched it in and TA DA it works.

So we've just driven home blasting out Pantera & Anthrax feeling awesome.

Now we just need to get the front driver side suspension arm replaced and we'll be VERY happy :)

Thanks for the help guys and gals.

Not sure that we helped much, but we did get an education on radios. Thank you!
