Just a simple swap

Post by Jeepin' » Tue Jan 26, 2010 5:48 pm

My buddy and I just acquired a 2000 es for literally next to nothing. Motor in it had terrible rod knock supposedly, so its half apart. The friend we got it off of is a awesome dude, his other ride is a hell of an SRT, very well done. Anyway!

Looking to pick up another stock 2.0 sohc from the scrapyard, just a simple drop in, not going outrageous as the car is an ATX and my buddies gonna give it to his aunt afterwords. I've done major tear downs of transmissions, motors, drive lines etc, but that was all on Jeeps, lol. The 2.0 looks fairly simple and straight forward, and I'm comfortable that if we get stuck, I've literally got my car as a 3D diagram lololol.

But, posting up here to see if anyone has any extra advice, things to look out for, ways to make the process easier, tips or tricks, specialty tools to look into, recommended parts to replace while we're in there etc etc.

Any and all feedback appreciated!

It's pretty simple really. The only thing I can think to offer is to drop it out the bottom if you can.
If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...

Make sure your muffler bearings are good too. Really easy to change while the car is out of the motor... much more difficult to do otherwise.

yes I said it that way on purpose, I'm not Brodie...

Son of a bitch! I thought those were only on Canadian models produced between July of 01 and September of 03!!

Does Dodge have a part number, or do I have to order from a Canadian dealer and have them shipped here?

And what you did there, I see it.

The Exhuast is the hardest part i think!! Always rusty and falling apart!! The engine can def be pulled from the top. dropping it through the bottom is easy but you will have to remove more stuff and need an alignment.
You can remove the top and lower dog bones (engine mounts) and the engine wont fall as there is a mount right in the middle.. The middle mount has a small Notch and MIGHT me stubbern when pulling engine from top.. Other then that its REALLY simple. ive done alot of them...
